On paper, Evan and Rachel seem to be the skaters least able to come up with a quick improv routine. This could be a first chance to see how DWTS might have have changed that about EL.

[When I'd read about Skate for the Heart somewhere else I was interested 'cos it's "just south of me" in Ohio. Then a glance at a map reminded me Youngstown's not exactly in the nearby Toledo part of the state. :shuffle:]

I think this is not the first time for Evan in this show? Actually I seem to remember that he did very well last year (or was it the the year before?) he was participating.

I though share your doubts about Rachael Flatt...

Evan did Improv Ice last year in Anaheim. It was pretty good. Jeff Buttle's was the best and I was very unimpressed with Sasha Cohen.

Ooh....Lowell is right next door!!! It would be great if Shae was in that one. However, it might cut into Battle of the Blades time.

Yeah, I didn't mean to make my earlier comment a put-down. I just wanted to open my big mouth and flap it about something. :p

I haven't seen these recent Improv shows. I remember that other improv event from several years ago was very interesting.

This earlier thread in late April featured a link to a publicity poster that included the names of Nagasu, Flatt, Davis/White, Denney/Barrett and Weiss (still to be officially confirmed perhaps?).

Sylvia, it has been unconfirmed but that poster was on Evan's FB and it is on the page that is selling tickets.

What, the 1950s? Will Tenley, Carol, and the Jenkins brothers be the guest stars? Is somebody going to skate Dick Button's "Roumanian Fantasy" program? I'm having a hard time figuring out how this concept fits in with the Disson formula.....

I wish! (Has MK ever done a Disson show? She co-hosted one, but I don't think she ever performed in one)

Maybe they will have Michelle Kwan perform a Lawrence Owen program . . . I'd travel and pay sky high ticket prices for that :p

Did all the shows actually happen last year? wouldn't be surprised if the "great tribute" show was the one getting the shaft this time...

Anyway, one of the first things that caught my eye when looking at the roster was that Rachel Flatt has decided to do the improv-ice show...interesting to see what she can come up with...

    Thanks for posting.

    A couple of thoughts:

    1. Interesting that so few skaters from the most recent Olympics (Vancouver 2010) are featured in any of the shows, especially Improv-Ice. Are the medalists or top-6 from Vancouver that out-of-reach and/or uninteresting to the US public?

    2. Where the heck is Johnny Weir in any of these line-ups? Has he become such a personna non grata recently...or does he now command such high fees that disson can no longer afford him?

Improv Ice has the two Vancouver medalists who'd be considered the biggest (singles) stars from North America. And Skate from the Heart has a few Vancouver medalists, again NAs. Aren't these shows almost always primarily NA skaters? Just like shows in Europe are a little short on NA skaters? (Again, it's the shows in Asia that seem to get more of a mix.)

As for JW's upcoming skating, I have yet to see any of his fans mention an appearance he's doing in July. (Which I know about 'cos he's evidently sharing the bill w/Rochette, and it was mentioned in passing on her FB page.)

It seems a location thing to me. Back in the 90s the USA was the place to be, so that's where everyone went. These days, it's Asia (Japan and Korea to be exact)- so those places will get the best choice of skaters. For shows elsewhere, it's usually skaters from the same country or continent. So doesn't surprise me that we're not seeing anyone else. Besides, even if TPTB DO go through the trouble to get them, it's not like it will be worth it- it won't translate to more viewers or higher ratings...maybe SOI feels the same way and that's why we didn't get Kim, Asada, et al. even for guest spots.

It also might mean that, with skating so hot in Japan and Korea, Kim and Asada can demand a lot more than SOI is willing to pay, simply because they have alternatives.

If one actually bothers to have a look on skaters mentioned for these shows, one can see that in 5 out of 7 shows have practically no cast mentioned, yet.

Has anyone seen an update of the Disson show information recently?

Their website has only 2009 shows. Would like to plan my fall travel ;)

Also anyone know of any other shows that will be coming up this year? Not competitions, just shows?

    Thanks!
