You guys must have been ecstatic in the arena. Watching at home, I was jumping up and down before Adam finished and shouting his name. When Adam was in the kiss 'n cry, I wanted to reach through the tv and give him a huge hug! :cheer:

I love how Adam, Josh, and Jason presented themselves during the free skate press conference. They are such classy young men, and genuinely kind/ caring human beings, not to mention superb athletes/ artists on ice.

Adam Rippon should totally be National Champion this year. A pity the medal he won did not justify the performances he put out!

I was in the arena.
My argument would be with Adam's SP score.
I believe that his score was low for two reasons:

He skated early.
TPTB did not expect him to do well.
It shouldn't affect scoring; however, we know that it often does.

Jason did skate very well; and the differential between them was too much to overcome.

In any case. we have 3 worthy representatives to the World Championships.

Or Jason's sp score was too high.

Adam shared this photo of himself on the ice with Ashley and Rafael Arutunian (Jeremy Ten commented that he's the figure sitting in the bleachers in the background ;)): https://instagram.com/p/0dwms7PY40/

ETA that he recently gave an interview to IFS magazine and IFS tweeted this quote on March 16:
"I think I have it in me to skate another 3 years - taking it one season at a time. I do have 2018 Olympics in my goal plan."

The very good news is that Adam moved up from 11th in the SP to finish 8th at Worlds, rebounding from a subpar Four Continents (though getting enough ISU ranking points there to move up into the penultimate group for the SP likely helped him at Worlds, IMO) AND he contributed to retaining 3 spots for 2016 Worlds in Boston! :cheer: (The U.S. men definitely were helped out by others not skating well in the FS, but Adam did enough in his FS and Jason Brown anchored the effort with an excellent 4th place finish!)

8 Adam RIPPON USA 229.71 11 8 (his ISU Season Best total score, which moves him to #21 on the SB list for this season)

8 Adam RIPPON USA 154.57 74.93 79.64 8.11 7.68 7.96 7.86 8.21 0.00 #18 (ISU SB score in FS)
Adam doubled his opening Lutz (planned quad) and then landed 6 of his 8 planned triples, including both 3A. He got dinged on his 2F-half loop (1Lo<)-3S< combo in the second half.
He was 6th in PCS.

Also, with his 8th place finish today, he fulfills the envelope criterion of placing 6 to 10 at Worlds for Team A Tier 2 funding for 2015-16.

congratulations to mr. adam rippon, he was phenomenal, and did everything he set out to do!
No, he didn't, actually.

IMHO, he seemed to be over-focused on landing a 4Lz at Worlds. Had he skated more cleanly in his FS (i.e., landed 8 clean triples like he did at Nationals), I think 6th in the FS and at least 6th overall would have been attainable.

Regardless, I'm happy he contributed to the successful effort of retaining 3 spots (he's now 2 for 3: he and Abbott kept the 3 spots at 2010 Worlds by placing 6th and 5th, respectively, but both were unable to regain the 3rd spot in 2012).

This almost made me wonder if he is starting to wrap up his career...
He might know he isn't going to be the World/Olympic Champion he dreamed about when he was coming up the ranks, and getting that 4Z ratified at Worlds was going to be his mark on the sport. (Of course, he has an element basically named after him, but some people do still call two arms up on a lutz a 'Tano, so it isn't quite the same.)

Adam's quotes after his FS (published in the USFS fanzone Worlds blog):
(on free skate) It definitely wasn’t my best today. I had a few troubles with the jumps but after my short program, I wanted to perform and give a nice long program performance. I felt free out there. Maybe a little bit too free, making that mistake on the quad. I never gave up throughout the program. Coming away, I’m happy to be in the top 10.

In the near future, I will go home and see if I’m selected for World Team Trophy and prepare for that if so. I also want to get a quick start on next season. I started my year poorly with the grand prix but then I really turned it around and so I want to continue that trend.

(on audience reaction) That means everything to me. I’m so excited that everyone received my programs so well here.

Before saying that Adam is "wrapping up his career" we should wait and see what Adam says about that.
I think he already addressed the question!

I know he has stated that he plans to go for the next Olympics. I'm not retiring him (noticing I said "starting to wrap up"- that wrap up can take the whole quadrennial). But I think he is starting to think about how he is making his mark on skating.
Everything he said pre-worlds was about that quad lutz. No other goal was stated about winning, medaling, top 10, etc.

I'd love to see him become a world champion, I'm not saying he can't still.

Adam delivered a speech at the Athlete Alumni Dinner at Governing Council last night about his eventful journey in skating so far - the text of the speech has been published on his website: http://figureskatersonline.com/adamrippon/home/profile/

Re-posting these links from the U.S. Men's thread in GSD:

Adam assisted in USFS' annual National Program Components Camp for younger skaters near Chicago last month with fellow members of the Athletes Advisory Committee - group photo shared by Douglas Razzano: https://instagram.com/p/1sgi9UJCeJ/

Here are a few videos from the camp:

Adam is planning to go to Toronto this summer and have Jeff Buttle choreograph his free skate, according to this IN article.

Excellent speech, Adam. Thoughtful and mature; my faith may yet be restored.

And Adam is from Clarks Summit????(Northeastern Pennsylvania) How did I not know this? Because if he ever had a Scranton accent, he sure ditched it fast!:biggrinbo
