Thank you for the link, Sylvia, and thank you for the great news, nashvilledancer. Congratulations, Jeremy!

I was fortunate enough to attend the Toronto SOI show (May 4th—meant to post earlier but didn’t have much time this week), and Jeremy was terrific! I really like the contrast between his two numbers.

The first was subtle and contemplative, the kind of program that functions by drawing the audience in and, imo, Jeremy did this very effectively. He has a way of finding and exploiting the quiet moments in the music along with the more powerful ones. I also love how this program used sustained movement in the beginning, allowing Jeremy to show off those sweeping edges of his, and then built with shorter, quicker movements using the upper body along with toe picks, the backs of the blades, edges, and changes of edge. This program had beautiful quality of movement, and Jeremy’s edgework was just gorgeous. And the way he looked into the audience…I had chills.

His second number was his “Sing, Sing, Sing” SP, and it was delightful! I have loved this program all season because it really shows a different side to Jeremy. It worked well in this show because he was so playful in this number and reached out to the audience, whom he had clapping along. He really does have the most adorable boyish smile. He had a fall on his triple lutz, but it didn’t matter because he got right back into the program with a nice flying upright spin. The audience seemed to appreciate the quality of his spins as he received a lot of applause for them in both programs. I loved how he used the suspenders as part of the choreography. He really got down into his knees, and I had a good view of his blades, so I could really appreciate how he used his edges and toe picks to capture the feel of the music. A very fun performance!

Jeremy was also great in the group numbers. We got to see his comical side in the transitional segments "The Four Stops" with Kurt, Scott, and Jeff. They were dressed in black pants with red tops and later red jackets, and were doing motown moves but with slapstick humour. They all worked really well together, and the audience got a real kick out of it. And in the “Dog Days Are Over,” I had a good view of him when he lifted and rotated Cynthia Phaneuf and I noticed they were looking right at each other and smiling during the entire move. They really seemed to be enjoying this interaction, and that was nice to see.

The guys’ number performed by Jeremy, Scott, Andrew, and Jeff to "Waiting For My Real Life to Begin" was beautiful. I love the way the guys interacted in this more introspective number (I know that sounds like a strange way to describe a group number, but that is how it felt to me). They had these spotlights on tripods, like something you would see in a photography studio, I think. They placed the lights so that they formed a small square almost (each light was a corner). And each guy stood at his light, worked his way around it and moved on to the next one, then they brought the lights together in the centre. There were some solos, some moments with concerted movement in a circle, and other moments when they paired off with them holding hands or arms and each guy pulling outward...and the guys sort of alternated between moving in a circle (without holding hands) and weaving around each other...like, the guys from opposite corners passed each other in the centre and interacted...and they used their arms, bringing them over their heads, tracing an arc pattern with one arm and then the other...sorry, I am having a hard time describing this. but the patterns were very interesting and the edgework beautiful.

Jeremy was a wonderful addition to the cast. He is able to execute difficult footwork, so I am sure Kurt had a great time working with him, and he knows how to move. I really hope he returns to CSOI next year!

Thanks, spikydurian. I forgot to take my little notebook with me, so I can't provide as many details as I would like. I hope we get more reviews of the shows out west.

and I agree, he seems to have fans from all over the world.

Here are some vids of the group numbers (thank you to marikat, pani, Shayii, and everyone else who posted some of these in the V&M thread):

no problem, t.mann; so nice to share the experience with fellow Jeremy fans:)

Jeremy's Japanese Fan Club meeting:
okay, how sweet is this guy? He is so gracious with his fans...he keeps putting his hands to his heart and saying "wow" and "thank you"--you can tell he really appreciates them.

Wow, you've really got to love and appreciate how Japanese skating fans show so much enthusiasm, admiration, and respect towards skaters. No wonder so many skaters love appearing and performing there; they really know how to welcome these skaters and make them feel good! :) It's official! . . . Jeremy could not be more adorable, cute, and sweet; I just want to kiss and hug him and some other things that are best left unposted. :swoon::eek:

Jeremy blew my mind at the CSOI in Vancouver. His glide is spectacular and his ability to vary his speed to match the music. I was thrilled, and surprised, to see his SP in its entirety, including an amazing triple axel (in the corner near my seat no less). I hope to be able to see him live again in the future, because if there was any doubt what a special skater he is, there can be no denying it when you are in the stadium watching him fly.

Re-posting from the SOI Canada thread in GSD:
General impressions from Vancouver, with the caveat that I don't know much of the music by name, and I need to make this quick: <snip>

Abbott was introduced as a "true artist", and he lived up to this. His slow sections were at figures speed, and he, too, emphasized balance. How he can accelerate so quickly to full, sweeping speed without any tells is amazing.

i hope it's ok for me to ask a question about jeremy's long program music. i figured this is where the people most knowledgeable about jeremy's skating would hang out... :)

i was very impressed with the music and choreography for jeremy's long program this season. but when i went searching for the music on the net, i found that the version on the net has lyrics--and the version jeremy uses doesn't. did jeremy have a band play a lyrics-free version of the piece especially for him, so that his long program music wouldn't violate the no-lyrics rule? or is there perhaps an official version of the piece that has no vocals? i would like to find the exact version jeremy used, so i can put it on my itune playlist.

thanks in advance for your insights :)

I absolutely love Jeremy's FS program this year and can't wait to see how he evolve as an artistic skater next year hopefully with something even better and challenging!

Jeremy did Muse Exogenesis: Symphony Part 3, and this is featured in Muse's Album "The Resistance".

Provided you get permission from the record label, they should allow you to remove lyrics from the soundtrack using software and edit them for skating music. Though I am not sure if the music editor could have just take out the part without lyrics and repeat some parts for the 4 mins program since the lyric parts is only 1min 30sec of the music especially several parts are easily repetitive.

I thought (and I could be "misremembering") , that a guitar solo/other music was recorded and put in place of the vocals.

This really could be an argument for vocal music in competition- I think the music is more powerful WITH the vocals than without.

I loved the program, but I hope he moves on to another this coming season. He never skated it clean internationally, perhaps it was too ambitious to do it while he was also trying to up the tech content.

Jeremy has his own personal edit, where he replaced the vocal with electric guitar. If you want that version, you'd probably have to contact Jeremy himself- you won't find it on itunes or anywhere else.

thank you os168 for the link and the info re: record labels and music use. very interesting!

thank you Triple Butz and centerpt1 for the information about the recorded guitar replacing vocals in the version Jeremy used.

since jeremy's music is not publicly available, i'm loving this no commentary version :)

i would like to see jeremy skate to many different pieces of music, so if he chooses to move on to a different long program, i will be happy. if he chooses to keep this program because he feels it has still-unrealized potential, i would be happy with that as well.

thanks again :)

US Figure Skating has posted video montages from 2012 Nationals of all their national champions on their official YouTube channel -- here's Jeremy's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88uO3T-0Qcw

Video of "I Won't Give Up" (Jason Mraz) filmed from a distance with a "guest appearance" from behind the curtain ;) about halfway through the performance (that's why the audience is laughing) at Detroit Skating Club this past Sunday 6/10: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdMqyRhxxiY

He's scheduled to perform at the "Skate for Hope" benefit show this Saturday -- link to the event thread in GSD: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/showthread.php?t=83575

Thanks for the link. ^^Haven't heard anything recently. Whether or not Jeremy keeps one of his programs from last season remains to be seen. Perhaps he has been listening to music and working on different ideas and hasn't yet settled on anything definitively. He's certainly been touring a lot as well, so I wonder if that means he will keep one of his programs and find the time to prepare something new for either a sp or fp before the summer ends. He has a wonderful new exhibition.

Wishing Jeremy great success in the new season.

Any vids available yet for Skate for Hope performances?

HeatherC shared this in the "Skate for Hope" thread:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PH4F-PKbHZo&feature=youtu.be

This vid almost captures what makes him so special and unique to watch when you see him live.

smoothness that is almost otherworldly, even in steps and into/out of jumps

power and speed that come from nowhere

Yuka has done a wonderful job helping him to develop his show skating.
This is not a jump out of your seats and cheer wildly exhibition number. I do like it, because it is a totally "Jeremy" number.

I hope we get two new programs this season-though it would probably be smarter to keep one. Part of the fun with Jeremy is seeing what he comes up with every year.

Jeremy's new programs performed under show lights on bad ice... Love the youtube poster's comment: "Abbott is genius."

(not the full program he will perform during the season)

Lots of great moments in these programs -- he's so smooth and effortless.

BTW, did he have tattos on his hands and what was that on his fingers in the interview with Paul and Emily after his sp?
