I watched Scoop on Netflix. Overall, it’s a very good movie. I’m not sure if it will get any Golden Globe or Emmy awards, though. I think Gillian Anderson will get a nomination.

There’s not a lot of new information in the movie if you’ve been following the Jeffrey Epstein/Prince Andrew scandals. Unless you didn’t already think that Prince Andrew is, at a minimum, one weird dude.

There is a true crime series called Homicide: New York on Netflix and it is really good! The series is heartbreaking because you feel for the victims and their families.

Is anyone watching the new season of Top Chef? I have thoughts and very few of them are positive. In fact the only positive thing I get out of are the damn Wisconsin cheese ad/promos. Those are downright sexy y'all.

I'm not sold on Kristen Kish as a host, which is disappointing because I was very excited initially that she'd been selected to replace Padma. I thought Bravo chose well. I can't even say why I'm not a fan--she's just not quite right? But she's new to hosting and she might grow on me.

But bigger problems than that are the challenges are strange and/or not well thought out, I hate the lack of quickfires so far (only one!), and the cheftestants are worse than unlikeable--they're boring and dull and only one has cooked a dish where I thought yum, I'd eat that. Gail and Tom seem less than enthusiastic (to be fair I would be too if I had to eat that). Though to be fair to the top chefabees I'm not sure how well I'd cook within the parameters of their challenges. The Coors Light challenge made no sense to me or the contestants least of which was it did not involve...beer. The quickfire involved hops but not the main challenge. The duality challenge sounded like it came out of an AI Focus Group.

I'm gonna watch till the end but man...this is not one of their better outings.

I've seen the first two episodes of the Fallout show on Prime and it is fantastic so far. My only real complaint is that it doesn't have radio station playing like you can do in the game but I acknowledge that's unrealistic for a TV show. It's very heavy on the Western genre influences which makes it more fun for me. It is also incredibly graphically violent though so be aware if anyone decides to check it out. That is in line with how you can have the game set up, but I can see why it might be too much for people.

My husband started watching it and I walked in to the room and pretty quickly got sucked in. I don’t play video games and knew nothing about it. The show has a really interesting tone to it and it doesn’t feel very “video-game ish” to me.

The Fallout universe being as expansive as it is really helps with that I think. The games pretty much all start with a refresher of what happened to cause the Wasteland to exist as it is anyway so it makes it easy for the show to do that and build from there so that fans of the games are still into it and it can explain what's going on to new fans without it feeling redundant.

If you enjoy stand-up and aren't a pearl clutcher, Neal Brennan has a new set called "Crazy Good" on Netflix and does a segment on athletes being crazy and it includes a section on figure skaters!

Outrage!
Then, toward the end of the show, as Joel performed a rousing version of “Piano Man” with the MSG audience and fans at home singing along, viewers in many cities saw their screens go to black, followed by local news: ...
At least one station offered both an apology and an explanation.
“As a man who grew up right next to Billy Joel’s hometown, who went to The Last Play at Shea, it was my duty to apologize to everyone about cutting off our telecast of Billy Joel tonight,” Evan Closky, sports director of 10 Tampa Bay, said on X. “Not to get into the weeds, but there was a special report after the Masters and it wasn’t accounted for by the powers that be beyond this building.”
Closky wrote that “tons” of stations in the Eastern and Central time zones cut to local news, adding that the problem wasn’t at those local stations but “was a mistake by people higher than the local affiliates, sadly.”

Don't know a thing about the game and binged the series. So from someone who is watching without preconceived notions of casting, setting, music etc...: I thought Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins terrific. The story kept me interested throughout and left plenty of unanswered questions for future seasons.

Other shows: "Shogun" has been good and last week was fantastic. I wish I could binge this one too but FX is releasing one episode at a time. The original series was more focused on the outsider in Japan. This focus is on both but more on the Japanese and and I find this more interesting and intense.

Masterpiece has "Mr Bates vs The Post Office"---a boring title for a compelling, maddening true story. Toby Jones is great, as always, as Mr. Bates. I want to reach through my tv screen and slap some people silly on behalf of Mr Bates and other postal employees who suffered because of computer mistakes.

It was okay. I liked that the three people who were more responsible for that interview were women.

I've been watching "Criminal Record" (waited until all episodes were available, so I could binge it) and greatly enjoyed it. Interesting characters with depths, intriguing story, very well written and good production value.
The dynamic between Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo is enthralling. I loved watching their cat and mouse play, not clear, who's cat and who's mouse. Their performances were fantastic. I hope there will be a series 2, just to watch thoes two together again.

Local news anchor just did an apology on-air. Basically said what the article did, that it was CBS. CBS will re-air the special on Friday at 9 pm.
FYI, Stephen Colbert did a detailed replay of the cut off and "You blew it CBS" on his Monday show, along with the same announcement that the full show will be broadcast on Friday.
Since I accidentally missed it the first time I'm pretty happy about it.

New season of Blown Away! Episode one was a decent first episode--good first challenge, have someone I think I'm really going to HATE and a few had pieces I really like. Quite a lot of room for heroes and villains--lots of talent and personality.

I like that they just get right into it, and I agree with the winner and the loser, which is always good.

But of course, there is some critiques. First criticism is I sometimes find the storytelling aspect a bit much. It's glass. One glass blower did bathtub and toaster as best friends, which honestly has such sophomore try-hard energy, like what a first year art student thinks of as being evocative.

Second criticism is this kind of a semi-pro competition, like Top Chef--not amateurs by any means, but not glass artists who are household names, major shows in galleries, etc...except there's a ringer, Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen, whose kind of a big name in glass, almost as big as the host. She even taught some of the contestants! A judge from the first season of Blown Away became a contestant on the next season. That's not fair or right.

Absolutely love Fallout! :cheer2:
I'm starting to get invested in this one... in part because I know there will be a season 2:

‘Fallout’ Officially Renewed for Season 2 at Amazon

In other series news...

Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ to End With Season 5

They will be adapting the final 3 books in the Sapkowski series for seasons 4 and 5. Given that each season is just 8 episodes long, this seems a bit ... rushed. But they haven't really been following the books all that closely anyway, so, whatever. I'll still be watching because, even without Cavill in it, I enjoy the other characters.

So Help Me Todd was canceled. :wuzrobbed:wuzrobbed:wuzrobbed:wuzrobbed:wuzrobbed:wuzrobbed:wuzrobbed
I hope another channel picks it up, apparently its numbers were holding up from last year and it was only cancelled because the other CBS shows were overperforming!
I find it less good than last year, though. The suspension of disbelief required to watch this show was always immense, but now it's like they don't try to make anything make sense anymore! 🫠

I watched the first 2 episodes of Under the Bridge, the limited series about the 1997 murder of teenager Reena Virk in Victoria BC. Super chilling.

And also slightly distracting, because the styling of Riley Keough makes her look so much like someone I know I can't unsee it :yikes:

Ohhh.. I didn’t realize that series was based on that case. We were around the same age and it got a lot of media attention and it really bothered me. Still does.
