Specifically two large dogs. We are relocating from Eastern Ontario to Winnipeg next month and will be driving with our two dogs. We were considering driving through the US rather than all of Ontario. Is crossing the border with pets a problem? I have all their papers, proof of vaccines etc. Is there anything else required? Also, is it difficult to find pet friendly hotels throughout the area?

Thank you in advance :) :dog:

Based on my experience taking cats across the border (by air) - US customs never blinked, but Canadian customs wanted to see proof of vaccinations, and in one case took the cat to secondary inspection to get a better look at the carrier. I think if you have their papers, you should be fine.

For hotels, it's going to vary, and there's often a caveat on size of pet. You might do a search to find a chain that you know will take pets so even if you arrive late, you know where to go.

This site has info specifically for people traveling with pets in the US and Canada: http://www.pettravel.com/passportnew.cfm

Contact your vet--they're more likely to have the most updated information.

Be sure and microchip your pets in case you get separated from them.
