The dangers of immediate TV reporting of developing stories.

Now 3 to 4 shot, gunman confirmed dead.

My apologies.

Just heard this, because my family called to make sure I was okay. Hop other FSUers are.

My thoughts go out to the victims and their families. Can't believe this is happening :(

Have now seen reported in a couple of places that at least one of the victims has died and CNN reporting 10 were shot. :(

This seems to be the most detailed at this point. Four wounded, gunman dead, originally eight were being looked at by the emergency workers (seems to be where the 8 came from), witness says gunman was firing indiscriminately.

Wow, I was a few blocks away when it happened. Saw/heard nothing and learned about it through FSU. Hopefully it's just one nut.

Granted we don't have much info, but it certainly sounds like a "one nut" kind of thing. Let's hope so.

ETA: NY Times also reports one person killed besides the shooter. :(

ETA: from the Times:

Two law enforcement officials said investigators have concluded that the shooting had no connection to terrorism and that it appeared to stem from a domestic dispute of some kind, and a third said it may have been sparked by a robbery or dispute in the street.

NY Network News now saying 10 injured, 4 of whom were shot. No one has died, except the gunman. The FBI is on the scene. They believe it was a work related issue that escalated and went out onto the street. Have seen written article that claims 2 have died, gunman and one other. However the 2nd death is unconfirmed. Le't pray it is not true.

Once again guns are the answer. How awful.

CNN reporting 10 shot, 2 dead (includes gunman) and 8 bystanders injured. No apparent links to terrorism.

New York Post reports 2 dead, including shooter. They say it was a co-worker dispute - the shooter followed the co-worker before shooting him/her, then turned the gun on a crowd.

Eeerily, just minutes before the mayhem, Mayor Bloomberg was warning about the dangers of “too many guns on the streets” on his weekly radio show.

“The argument guns don’t kill people, people kill people is one of the most disingenuous things you can say,” he said shortly before 9 a.m. while discussing tougher guns laws being proposed in Albany.

“It does take a person to pull the trigger, but if they didn’t have the gun... We are the only developed country in the world with this problem.”

Every source I'm seeing now, updated in the last few minutes, is saying 2 dead, including the gunman. According to this article, what's not clear if the dead victim was the/a targeted person: http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news/local/new_york&id=8785101
