I have a good friend moving from DC to Orlando for work. He spends a lot of time here in museums, attending theater and concerts, loves the philharmonic etc. Does anyone have any recommendations for good theater companies or concert venues in the Orlando area? I would like to get him a going away present of couple of tickets or a gift card so he can try some stuff out. I know they have a ballet company, but he's more of a theater/music guy.

Here's a website with links to many of the major venues:

It's only a start on what's available in the area.

Not too much variety going on here in Orlando, but most of the bigger productions (traveling companies, etc.) are at the Bob Carr Centre:

Here's the Arts page from today's Orlando Sentinel to give your friend an idea of what's happening here:

Having lived in Tampa for 7+ years, I'd recommend checking out all of Central FL- the arts scene (and almost ALL scenes) in Tampa are pretty top rate. And, it's only an hour, hour 1/2 drive to get there. Some things might be worth it! Orlando is a terrific place to be for entertainment and what not... So central to so many different cities in FL!
