This thread makes me a little sad I didn't pursue the match.com thing further ...

... or does it??

I can't believe men send penis photos! Am I really that naive? (rhetorical question.) Why, why, why, why, why? Oh, and why??????? Guys like that really need to get a clue!

O-

Yes?

Many men believe that size does matter, and they want to prove right up front that they have what it takes! ;)

Good news! I got a nipple photo! It's a 40 something cop, and he's sagging. Yeah, really. Pull up your pants, man.

I was informed that I will not get responses because I only have a head shot and a full length shot in a short sleeve black turtleneck with a just above the knee skirt. I was asked how they could tell if I am fat or not. Many of these men are chubby to put it kindly. Surely the full length non chubby photo is sufficient?

I could possibly win a date with a Renaissance Man if I can answer this: What is Roe V Wade about, and what are two ways to cross the Intracoastal waterway? Hopefully, abortions, cars, and boats are the correct answers.

Found one lesser nerd IT guy. Once I find out what he's particular about controlling , we could be on to something. Then again, he's likely not particular about controlling particles. Probably something creepy and embarrassing like furries.

I must have looked at 100 profiles in the past week, but they're so offputting. No baggage, no games, no drama, must not live more than 10 miles from me, even though I am obese you must be thin, must love reptiles.....Ugh. It doesn't help that I look for spelling errors and misuse of caps. Then again, shouldn't you take enough care to make sure your profile is appealing and error free before you post it?

LOL, I completely agree. I laugh that most pictures are either self-portraits in front of a computer screen (never flattering), or pictures with no shirt, on a motorcycle, or holding a big fish. None of which create any interest for me...

I tried online dating a few years ago. I actually left the site because I had two very bad responses... first guy became aggressive in his posting -- telling me that I was stuck up because I wouldn't respond to him and wanted to know why I thought I was better than him --not true at all, but his profile was not interesting in the least. And, I didn't respond because I had sent a polite no to another guy who messaged me continuously with increasingly pornographic messages. Scared me. I was done!

I haven't even started, but I think I'm giving it up-The people seem very creepy and either overly confident (Sexy photos, several paragraphs of bragging) or very negative. It feels weird, and I thought it would be an effective way to screen dates and have some fun.

I worked enough overtime this week to pay a year of gym dues. Likely will be able to meet people through that venue.

It took me three years of being on Plenty of Fish to meet my fiance. But if it's not for you, it's not for you. :) I also am not fazed by creepy online guys. I just block 'em. Or post the  profile for my friends to read.

Also, I've met more creepy guys at my gym than online. :shuffle: This is probably because you have a way of blocking the online creeps, but when a guy starts to follow you around on the machines and then tries to start an awkward conversation, there isn't a whole lot of escape aside from cutting your workout short. :o And changing the times you go to the gym, if the guy is creepy enough that you want to avoid him again entirely.

I thought that weightlifting with the guys on free weights would get them off me, but I was still hit on by an older dude. I went on this long rambling thing about why I was weightlifting (my mom has osteoporosis), and since my explanation wasn't "I'm trying to look hot for guys like you," he left me alone after that.

I also stopped wearing shorts at the gym. :P And I think since I've been using the serious barbells (45+ lbs) and the squat rack, I've become suitably more intimidating. :D

Three years? No, thanks. I knew it would be numbers game, but just reading profiles and messages has become sort of depressing and creepy.

That being said, I'm off to read profiles for a few minutes. Glutton for punishment.

YMMV. Being stalked short-term at the gym is depressing and creepy.

At least men at the gym don't pose bare chested on the bed, whilst snuggling a confused and disgusted looking Doberman. I will say his rich, mahogany tan really set off his giant gold chain.

I ferreted out a jeweler and an IT guy. Both seem normalish.

It's still weird and creepy. :P

But you can block them and never see them again!

Thanks Murdoch. :)

THIS. :respec:

For some reason wearing my grimiest sweat pants, throwing my hair up into a ratty pony tail, listening to my ipod, and wearing my best Mckayla Maroney bitchface means "PLEASE HIT ON ME!" to some guys. Sheesh. I don't even bother to go to the gym anymore, I just workout at home, and occasionally hit up a dance or yoga studio. I tend to think the gym creepers are probably the same types of guys that post the shirtless pics or can't be bothered to actually read/comprehend profiles.

About six years ago I posted a personal ad on craigslist since I had just moved to a new city, and figured why not? It was my first attempt at online dating. I got a couple hundred of responses, about 5-10 were actually reasonable, I finally decided to meet up with one of the guys that responded, and we've been together ever since :) Lots of frogs out there, but it's worth wading through them to get to someone worthwhile.

The only times I've been asked out in the past year, I was walking back to my apartment from my complex's gym while a hot, sweaty, gross mess. It completely confused me. It still does

I don't know. Seems like wherever I go, I get hit on on a regular basis, by at least one man.

Sometimes happens to me too!

Well SOME of us aren't babes like Cupid here!

:P

But really, it can be hilarious. A classmate of mine last semester was in pretty much the same predicament - she's very pretty, very unintimidating, and very bubbly. The combination of all three things meant that guys were hitting on her every time she stepped out of her apartment. And she quite honestly believed that it happened to every girl on the face of the planet.

There was another student in the same class who was actually a model, but she didn't attract as much attention from the guys, curiously enough. She had some of that model fierceness on her, adding some intimidation that scared many of them off, I believe.
