Back on topic...Nathan Adrian. Now there's an ugly American I'd like to get to know! :grope:
With Nathan Adrian and Marcel Nguyen, I have come to the conclusion these Olympics that my Caucasian fiance and I will have to make beautiful hapa babies.

Also, we are awkward geeks. What's better than a beautiful awkward geek? :D Case in point, Nathan Adrian with a remote control helicopter: http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m87ajxmaQq1rt3hdmo1_500.gif

Please don't tell me Adrian has done anything questionnable. He is so stunningly beautiful...I need to believe he is just as beautiful inside.I'll volunteer to do the full inside-and-out examination. :saint:

Absolutely nothing. Implying you want an opportunity to kick his ass while he is trying to sing along to his national anthem is questionable, however. :P

I didn't get that, at all. Just that he wants him to be there.

We, figure skating fans are spoiled with the likes of Matt Savoie, Dick Button, Debi Thomas, Michelle Kwan, Vanessa Lam, Rachael Flatt, Sasha Cohen and many others who are intelligent, accomplished and articulate people besides being elite athletes.

I notice you didn't mention Tara Lipinski . And Sasha is not the best example of polite, but she can speak.

I thought that was Ralph Lauren? :D

And Nike. Those gray podium outfits are hideous.

I thought the RL and the Nike stuff was all tragic. They should end their contract with RL.

According to wikipedia (which is always right about everything) the term was in use before that book came out, just not widespread. The picture they show as having the title that originated that term shows a tourist behaving badly.

Politeness was not the point, being articulate (and well-educated) was. Although Sasha was perfectly polite in the interview.

Given the low bar you've set for someone being an ugly American, I think Adrian obviously qualifies as one. Two other ugly Americans, Lochte and Phelps, were cheering when he won, a sure sign that he's one of them. And Adrian says that Phelps is a great guy, another sign that he himself is an ugly American. Also, have you seen the photo he's posted of himself on his twitter page? One could just say that he's very generously allowing others to admire his body, but I think it's very clear that he's bragging about what a great body he has and implying that all the other guys out there are lame. So, yup, he's an ugly American. ;)

Absolutely! :respec:

We shouldn't allow those holier-than-thou Canucks to be polluted by contact with us rude Amerikans now, should we? We Amerikans will be happy to keep amongst ourselves. :saint:

Not to mention he graduated with honors from one of the best universities in the country. How dare he show off his intelligence! Surely a sign of an Ugly American!

Nice try. You not only posted it and stirred up the ugly American hate, but have twisted Leyva's comments about a gymnast he admires and has repeatedly and efffusively praised to be ugly. If those comments qualify Leyva as an ugly American, then Adrian qualifies as one, too.

So, Nathan Adrian is all ours!

I've been disappointed by the lack of Nathan in the porny olympians thread. Get on that stat, FSU!

No, no, no. Nathan has been mine since Beijing! I've porned over him at worlds and nationals for years! All you bandwagonners can't suddenly decide you on board! You all should have called him earlier!

^ They just met him, and this is crazy. They're like, " ... and here's my number, so call me, maybe ..." As if before he came to their lives, they missed him so bad.

And now for a change of pace, Americans are criticizing Americans....specifically the US women's soccer team, who wore some rather un-humble T-shirts at their medal ceremony.

Yikes! I am surprised that Team USA even allowed this. I thought the US medal winners had to wear those grey jackets? Apparently there was a deal with Nike:

No one is blaming the women on the team. They were handed shirts and put them on, as expected. And I don’t blame Nike either: Every 13-year-old girl who’s ever picked up a soccer ball is begging for one right now. The people at fault are the go-betweens for Nike and Team USA. They should have realized the way those shirts could have been perceived.
