I couldn't watch the event finals live because I was on a plane and I have to say that my favorite routine of the top three was Ablyazin's if only for his double twist to tuck double front.
I'm convinced Kohei's injured. Last year he did a triple double which he stuck to open on floor. He hasn't done anything close to that.

Too much bummage for me today. I was so bummed about McKayla's mistake (gutted for her earlier today but thankful she seems to have a good grasp on things overall) and then Jake missed out on a medal all together so I barely cared what happened anywhere else. :( After today I really hope Jordyn ends up on the podium for the FX final and that Aly medals in at least one of her upcoming events. Boy, I think Aly, McKayla, and Jordyn can form a club about how to deal with disappointments in the Olympics after this first week of competition.
BTW-Justin Beiber made a video for Missy Franklin....he better do something for the Fierce Five! :P

i was rooting for uchimura but zou kai clearly won over him. and uchimura is not tumbling like his youtube version from 2011...
is hiding injury (or at least not publicizing injury) common in gymnastics?
ETA: NBC's coverage of FX and PH was better than i could have hoped for. and andrea joyce didn't stick a mike in maroney's face and ask, how does it feel... so i can forgive the social media update tonight... even though they chacked marcel's less than stellar routine...

Yeah Kohei has just seemed off this whole Olympics. My mom just looked skeptical when I told her he's considered to be the greatest all-around gymnast ever. Sigh. I wish she had watched worlds last year.
After watching the vault finals, I have to say there seemed to be some bad vibes in that building in general. What a crappy final. I am genuinely happy for Sandra though, she's a great competitor and a classy lady.

i've fallen in love with izbasa. :) what a classy lady, and so pleasing to see that she has a grown woman's build and grace and can still spring up in the air like those spry young 'uns.
i too as a once every 4 years watcher had difficulty believing uchimura is considered the greatest all around gymnast. youtube helped with my remedial education. :) thing is, didn't he admit to being injured at one of the past worlds? if he could mention it then, why keep it under wraps now?

My cousin was here when CTV showed us that sad sack lookback. Thought I was watching NBC truthfully. Anyway...She wasn't watching when they showed what happened to Elly Black, but she heard my gasp. When she turned around she goes, "Oh, she fell.", then turned back to talk w/my Mom.
While she was gushing about how much she loves Gymnastics, she's a once only every four years kind of really loves Gymnastics person, and I didn't have the heart to say anything about just how big an understatement she made about Elly's first vault going so horribly wrong. :( I really hope she's not badly injured, but that just out and out looked terrifying. :(

I don't like no-touch EF warmups. I think it takes the level of competition down. We see more mistakes and shakeups in EFs now, and not in a good way.

I hope Maroney continues. Aren't next Worlds individual only? She would surely be sent as a vault girl.
I think (and hope) that she will. She had to believe that she was going to get the gold and I don't think she will be happy until she is the Olympic vault champion. I was shocked when she fell and I think it will drive her. That's the only good thing about her falling. She not only will want to win, but will want to overcome the memory of that crazy fall.
For some reason I thought that event finals started tomorrow, so I wasn't prepared for the shock of Maroney falling and losing. I can't imagine how shocked she was. To me, she looked like she was in a daze after she fell, but that might just have been her typical stoneface.
Call them what you will, but I really like all the "divas."

Has anyone found a link for medal ceremony for Women's Vault? PM me if you find a link cause this thread will be over 1,000 by the time I be back. :D I stay offline to avoid spoilers until 1:30am each night and I'm guessing this thread will be toast by then.

lol I couldn't help but spoil myself and bloody hell the best vaulter in the world once again fails to capture Gold. But wheeeee love Izbasa. And don't you love gymnastics when things you expect to happen don't. Love surprises. And wheeee Paseka wins Bronze.
Now lets see what happens with UB, Beam and Floor.
OMG lol third time editing this. I forgot about Amanar's vault gold in 1996. Great record for Romania who since 1976 have always grabbed one Gold at the Olympics and has always medaled in Team Finals.

So annoyed that I was in the hospital for heat exhaustion, only to come home just in time to watch Mckayla fall on her second vault. :fragile: If there was one thing I wanted to happen at this Olympics (aside from USA team gold) it was a gold for Maroney on vault...what a crappy day! And of course my boyfriend who knows nothing about gymnastics thinks it's funny the "little girl" NBC keeps hyping up fell on her butt
I'm absolutely gutted for Louis, even though Berki was equally fabulous. They were both so wonderful, it's unfortunate there has to be a "tiebreaker". Tweddle and Mustafina better get a medal today!
Even though I'm bummed for McKayla, I'm so happy that Izbasa is having an excellent competition. She's doing a lot better than her own coaches gave her credit for, and she still has another opportunity to medal :) I noticed McKayla hugged Sandra, but for some reason didn't lean in to hug Paseka. It looked to me like she was so shocked she didn't even realize that someone was leaning in to hug her, so she didn't react.

I still give McKayla a gold medal for the most beautiful and elegant leotard (white with rhinestones...minus the tacky-shiny stretch fabric of the colored leos worn in the team and indiv AA by TeamUSA). Finally, a gymnast in this Olys wearing the soft-cotton stretch non-shiny fabric that used to be the standard 15-20 yrs ago. CLASS!

I don't get why there is no touch warmup?
I'm confused by these "still ring finals". What is a still ring? Surely if there were such an apparatus, I'd have seen it on NBC. ;)
