I wouldn't be surprised at all if start order comes into play for bars final with the result being:

Mustafina
Tweddle
Komova
Kexin

If they all hit.

I could live with that.

After the disappointment of todays final I am almost scared to even think about how the others could go. I want Tweddle to win bars so badly but more than anything I want her to medal. It is awful that someone so dominant on UB has never won an Olympic medal.

ITA. I'm really afraid of heartbreak tomorrow. Although I could justify happiness for most of these amazing women to win, except for Kexin who has had her gold already.

And no 3 way ties! Not sure my heart could take it.

I agree about Beth winning I am just a bit concerned that it will play down like Athens rings ie someone out performs her she wins anyways.

Beth herself said that she does not care which colour, just a medal so I am fine with her not winning because I want Mustafina (and Komova) to get a gold. :P

But I fear it won't happen because I bet on those two and so far all(!) my bets in women's gymnastics have played out badly. (even Maroney who seemed like the safest bet...)

Olga Korbutt is my first real sporting memory and has been my favourite gymnast ever since :) I was delighted to see her appear recently pre the Olympics opening ceremony on Dancing On Ice Goes Gold - even Torvill & Dean were a little starstruck

her grace is still there ... What a personality she is :)

that was my first Olympics I really watched closely and then started gymnastics that Summer - BAGA badges.. all because of watching Olga Korbutt... So sad :( to realize that she was affected by Chernobyl..

In addition to a gold medal Maroney has one the most memorable moments in this Olympiad imho. I know we still have several days to go but I will never forget that vault. And silver is nothing to sneeze at...

sounds like she has realized that now..:) I too will always remember that perfect vault - as its the closest I have ever seen to a nadia or olga moment .. such perfection.. I'm sure upon reflection she will realize how special these olympics were for her..

I hope Maroney continues. Aren't next Worlds individual only? She would surely be sent as a vault girl.

After the predictability of the USA winning TF, I didn't have Douglas down as the AA Champ and Iszbasa winning vault; I wonder what'll happen over the next two days?

Could you link to those articles where Geddert says the Amanar should be renamed after McKayla Maroney? I haven't seen those, either.

Not to get back into this discussion but I just read it on NBC news here (http://www.nbcolympics.com/news-blogs/gymnastics/maroney-falls-izbasa-wins-gold-on-vault.html). Look at the 6th paragraph.

As if I needed any new ammunition to think that Geddert is a tool and Wieber should run far, far away from him.

I'm never betting again, Heds! Unless of course Ponor wins beam and Musty wins bars....:saint:

Ugh, are they really? I hate how they mess with the formula every year. Why don't they run a full competition?

Yeah only 4 can go next year. :( I do feel very strongly that in 4 years McKayla could have the same two vaults she did at this competition and win Olympic gold. It's just now she really needs to get the other events up to par if she is to continue, watching gymnasts like Simone Biles and others capable of doing really high difficulty, she's going to have very stiff competition for that vault specialist spot in 4 years. Izbasa did a great job capitalizing here and it's nice to see her with another OGM, but I fully expect the USA to continue dominating on vault the next 4 years. There are at least 4 juniors currently doing the Amanar, on top of all of the others who currently do. There is no way some of these ladies won't start training a 2nd vault, now that they all see how far it can take you. And ARGH Sacramone must just be livid, she could've easily left here a two-time OGM based on today. I hate 5 person teams! It would've been easier dealing with McKayla's fall and a bronze medal instead if Sac could've made the team too and won gold. Would've been fab too because of her 4th place finish in 2008.

I love McKayla Maroney and am completely devestated for her. But I take great comfort in knowing that while she did lose the vault gold, she provided the most amazing women's vault ever done in the same competition with many many more people watching. The talent of this team is incredible and I fully expect at least 3 of them to continue for the next 4 years. What hurt the last team more IMO, was that they didn't stick with it the full four years. All but Bridget officially retired and lost their gymnastics shape. If Gabby, Mac, and Kyla stay in shape and competing every year, combined with their talent they all stand a much better shot at qualifying for a 2nd team than anybody from the 2008 team IMO (none of them will be running against a clock to get skills back).

There was a cool little segment on NBC Nightly News while ago that focused on the sudden mini-explosion in gold medals for Great Britain. It really, really made me wish Louis Smith had slipped past that tie and snagged a gold in Pommels, even though I thought Berki was spectacular. :(
