pollyanna, thanks for reminding us about Olga's living near Chernobyl at the time of the disaster - and her efforts to help the victims.

We had humidity like we've never had here before yesterday and I just cannot seem to handle those conditions anymore, so I missed everything before 12:30pm. So came in here to find out what happene and...

I'm actually glad I didn't see Elly Black's vault from the sound of things here. Hope she's not too badly hurt.

Still can't believe McKayla didn't win Gold, but as she herself said, you fall, you don't deserve it. Congrats to Izbaza!!

Flare work!?! I missed honest to God actual Flare work on the PH? I *hate* this new Generation of doing nothing but keeping their legs glued together while working on that thing. The flarework is what makse PH actually exciting, so I'm more than bummed I missed a routine that sounded just incredable using it!!

Thrilled for the GB boys regardless. What a meet for them!! :D

Can you please link to the article that states USA Gymnastics wants the FIG to rename the Amanar after McKayla Maroney? I haven't yet seen it and can't seem to find it.

Thanks in advance!

I never said USAG gymnastics but there's articles where Geddert for example says it. Its not right. Not of course that the Russians and others haven't made comments that are disrespectful. I don't think people would like it if the Russians or Romanian head coaches talked about a move...

I feel bad for Maroney and probably a little harsh I'm sure she congratulated the others later... She is a beautiful vaulter and it sucks when you train so hard and it doesn't go your way.

Yes, you did. See here:

I was talking about representives of the USAG. John Geddert, Bela Karoyli making those comments.

Could you link to those articles where Geddert says the Amanar should be renamed after McKayla Maroney? I haven't seen those, either.

How is not the head coach of the team not representing USAG gymnastics? He may not be making official statements but he is representing USAG gymnastics. Just a point. I won't bring it up anymore.

Oh my; that is indeed a sourpuss face. She's allowed her disappointment though. I'm not thrilled if she indeed did not congratulate the others on the podium; it's not their fault she fell.

Loved the nbc bit on Olga Korbut; I absolutely idolized her as a kid and teenager.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if start order comes into play for bars final with the result being:

Mustafina
Tweddle
Komova
Kexin

If they all hit.

Yes he did make a comment that her vault was so good it should be renamed the Maroney; however, McKayla herself today commented that to have one named after her she should create her own vault.

Geez, bek, you really can suck the life out of the entire gymnastics competition with you whining. How about watching some track and field tonight????? :scream:

In addition to a gold medal Maroney has one the most memorable moments in this Olympiad imho. I know we still have several days to go but I will never forget that vault. And silver is nothing to sneeze at...

I gave Maroney credit for saying she wants her own vault. Everyone just jumped on me....
