Frank Ocean is an amazing singer of song.

Last year he released a free mixtape "nostalgia, ULTRA". It was incredible.

This year he released his debut album "channel ORANGE". It is a masterpiece.

After rumours about his sexuality started circulating after one article suggesting he is bi was published, he has decided to cut all of it short and come out.

This is important because Frank is a black r&b/soul singer as well as a member of the Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All hip hop collective which - as pretty much all hip hop acts - is all about macho masculinity and using the word 'fag' at least 59 times in each of their songs. The odds were stacked against him and coming out was a very brave decision.

Just like Anderson Cooper's, his coming out wasn't the usual case of 'HI, FYI I AM A GAY!'.

Instead, Frank Ocean has written this (http://frankocean.tumblr.com/image/26473798723). The most beautiful thing I have read in a very very long time. I could write a lot about it but you should just read it.

So there it is. A very important cultural landmark for a number of reasons.

I hope Frank becomes massive, or at least "indie massive" now. He deserves it (because his music is great, not because he's bi ;P).

Awesome. This is great to hear. As you said, Ziggy, it can be especially tough to come out in the hip-hop/r&b world, so good on him.

I really like his work as well and am a fan of his hook on Kanye West/Jay Z's No Church in the Wild:
