 We are, though there is a slight rank of anti Japanese feeling on my facebook feed right now :P

Mr. allezfred at one point was so disgusted by how many mistakes the Japanese men were making that he said he hoped that they didn't make the podium.

It's not really Japan that I'm annoyed with-it's the rule that allows protesting such subjective things. And the making subjective things so important. But I did hear it wasn't just the handstand that was being protested.

Agreed. Saying things like Uchimura will "get his karma" and such is just silly. He's not evil  They just felt they'd been underscored - they were well within their rights to appeal. Plenty of appeals get put forward - some are accepted some aren't.

I didn't say he will get his karma and all... my problem is that i am hugely biased in favor of Ukraine and would have liked them to medal rather than Japan with huge messy routine that scored 14.1 instead of 13.4.

i am not sure of plenty of appeals being put forward in team events, because a single appeal takes time to resolve...Ukraine was robbed (again i am hugely biased), this would have meant a lot to the gymnastics of that country... sooo sad.

I missed most of the event, and based on the comments, I have minimal interest in watching the full broadcast. Were there any outstanding performances that I should try to watch?

GB floor was phenomenal. Everything else was meh.

Really, the announcers should not have announced medals if Japan was filing a protest.

Locog ran out of money for bigger podiums and flower bouquets?

they forgot about team events ...

Feels so weird seeing a union jack at a mens team event.

Kristian had a good vault as well.

I will be astonished if the U.S. women are able to win gold tomorrow. Between what happened with Jordyn and what happened to the men, it's hard to think they won't be the next domino to fall. Please let Gabby gain confidence and settle her nerves, let Aly remain tough, and let Jordyn use her disappointment to make her more focused. This isn't my favorite set of gymnasts, but it would be heartbreaking to see them meltdown too.

Oh no, poor Ukraine! To think they had a medal but in the end they did not. :(

At least GB still got a medal, I hope they are still happy even though it's not silver.

Sounds like the judges screwed up big time on Uchimura's score, and it happened at the worst possible moment, just when medals were announced.

Congrats to team Japan for silver! :cheer:

Poor Ukraine. To see it on the scoreboard that you have an Olympic medal and then have it all ripped away within minutes!
I know. This must be heartbreaking for them. And for me it brings back wretched memories of the US ladies team in 1988. :(

I still hope Uchimura dominates in the AA.

It is quite a regular at the European championships, good for them that they managed to do at the Olympics as well.

GB: Kristian Thomas pretty much everything
Louis Smith PH

Russia: Rings, the tall blond guy whose name starts with a B
Also, their last vaulter.

Hambuchen was excellent on high bar.

Ukraine were just doing solid, clean nice gymnastics all the time

Can't remember anyone else, I'm afraid....

Ukraine was almost clean all-around, if anything Japan got a little benefit of the doubt on some scores - no surprise there, they're the big name team. Still, it's really sad to see a team win a medal with so many mistakes and a protest when an underdog team with virtually no funding whatsoever and possibly one well-equipped gym in the whole country, if that, hits and just misses out.

I agree with GB floor, and would also add Kristian Thomas on vault.

What a roller coaster and I don't even care about men's gymnastics. I can't imagine what tomorrow will feel like where I follow more closely and have favourites.
