BBC commentators now doing the exact opposite of wuzrobbing, saying Japan definitely deserved silver

I am in total no teknik with gymastics, I don't have any kind of informed opinion on the actual decision. But it does leave a very sour taste to have it happen like that.

BBC: "Japan were entitled to that silver medal."

Again, amateurs.

Shannon Miller on the NBC live stream pretty much had the same reaction. Clearly she's not ready for prime time.

Just saw on Japanese media that two of Uchimura's elements were not counted and that was the reason for the upgrade.

Yes, I'm sure Al and his team will do a much better job explaining it. Actually, they'll be too busy getting in John's face. :(

Protesting a Handstand is so annoying. I hate that is what has come of this sport. I understand why Japan did it but it clearly close and when it's close it should be a on the field call. No they should review all the routines to see if they got start values right. I know that isn't how it works but it makes me want to never watch this sport again. I actually like Japan over Ukraine but it's annoying as hell to protest something super subjective like that hand stand clearly seems to be to my eyes at least.

Sorry but if the Japanese coach thought he hit the dismount, then he was totally in his right to protest. Why should they give up a medal?

Agreed. Saying things like Uchimura will "get his karma" and such is just silly. He's not evil  They just felt they'd been underscored - they were well within their rights to appeal. Plenty of appeals get put forward - some are accepted, some aren't.

It's left a sour taste, but hating on the Japanese isn't fair IMO.

Still, poooor Ukraine :(

John, John...were you thinking of Michael Phelps when you imploded out there?

Really, the announcers should not have announced medals if Japan was filing a protest.

Locog ran out of money for bigger podiums and flower bouquets?

Does anyone have the medal ceremony live?

Those podiums are far too small.

And no audible booing for Japan. That's good. :)

Gymnasts are smaller than average, but they're not THAT small for the podium!

I missed most of the event, and based on the comments, I have minimal interest in watching the full broadcast. Were there any outstanding performances that I should try to watch?
