Christine Ohuruogu was brought up a mile from the Olympic Stadium, still lives in the area and is an OGM winner - perfect candidate in my opinion. I will concede however, that Beckham has the edge on her when it comes to looking good in underwear

The problem with her is that she might forget to show up on the day. :slinkaway

I think people misread my last post. Children can light the flame as representing future Olympians. Haaken was ok as he represented his father and grandfather so there is some wiggleroom but I was basically stating that popstars and the like do not light the flame.

I cannot find the link anymore that said that as it was over 2 years ago I was doing research. I just remember looking it up to see which Canadians would be eligible and my father-in-law was excited because he technically could be chosen as he was a paralympian.

Opening ceremony role for Beckham (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/18977404)

I think him kicking a flaming football into the cauldron might top Barcelona. ;)

Urghh... nOoooooo.... as if Victoria Beckham's head is not big enough already!

I'd rather have Harry Potter doing a fire spell with his magic wand!

I assume you haven't heard that the Spice Girls are going to be performing in the closing ceremonies? Granted it's only a one off because Becks doesn't want to be associated with them anymore, but still as a huge fan growing up, I can't wait.

He did an interview three weeks ago and said he turned down lighting the flame because he wasn't an Olympian and there were others that deserved the honor... so either that is a really good cover, or he really isn't a possibility.

Maybe Becks could kick a flaming Victoria into the cauldron?

French prefer Le Becks to light the cauldron (http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/sport/2012/0726/1224320826797.html)

I guess we can now safely say that it won't happen. :wuzrobbed

Don't you mean Old Spice Women? Yes, it would be nostalgic for sure! Wonder if Geri will get to wear her Union jack dress attempting to steal the show again (& revive her career). I bet they all want to wear it.

Can't say I am a fan of their brand of girl power. Zig Zig Ahhh apparently means go and have Eddie Murphy's baby without him knowing then claim paternity. Become the queen of WAGs, wear it like a trophy and be responsible for a whole generation of British girls' no.1 ambition is to grow up up to be a WAG. Talking about girl power BACKWARDs!

Apparently a lot of money was put behind Roger Bannister today at the betting shops .....

I just thought in the spirit of Anglo-American relations Mary Decker could carry the torch up towards the cauldron.

And then Zola Budd could come along and trip her up. :EVILLE:

Maybe someone's gonna pull it out of the rock like king Arthur pulled Excalibur? :D
