I'm completely out of the loop on gymnastics (I used to watch it as reverently as figure skating eons ago)

Are Russia and Romania powerhouses once again?

That's a bit of a difficult question. Romania has struggled mightily all this quad and only started showing some real brilliance this year, but their bars are still so far below par that it was unlikely that they could win barring any major mistakes from the other teams. But now that Larissa Iodache is out of the AA and won't be doing floor or vault, that knocks them down a lot more. They're still the favorite to take the gold in beam and floor, though. Ponor has really come back into form.

Russia has been a big powerhouse these last few years, but still struggles with consistency and injuries. They definitely have the goods to win the gold team medal, but my faith in them hitting all their routines is pretty low. If they do hit, it will be VERY, very close.
