I'm still waiting for someone in skating, whether it be a skater or a commentator, to break the seal on using "voidy".

"Flutz" made it to mainstream skating vocabulary, so why not? :inavoid:

Ein Stern Fällt Vom Himmel (A Star is Falling from the Sky) - Austria, 1961 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHF2BCUdt6Y)

Skaters: The Vienna Ice Revue, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vienna_Ice_Revue) featuring German champion Ina Bauer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ina_Bauer_%28figure_skater%29).
The leading man is Austrian alpine ski hottie and 1956 Olympic triple gold medalist Toni Sailer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toni_Sailer).

We lead off with Ina Bauer, followed by a duet and a stompin' Gypsy/Folk number that segues into the signature Vienna Ice Revue finale.

Enjoy.

"Flutz" made it to mainstream skating vocabulary, so why not? :inavoid:Maybe they shy away from it, because it ridicules one of their own (ie. Christopher Dean).

Flutz was jargon used by skaters long before the internet.

Now, as far as I know "lip" was created by fans online as a counterpart to flutz, and I have heard it used in local rinks since.

Its strictly a message board term. I've never heard a skater say it. It stems from an embarrassing Christopher Dean quote. Pretty funny actually.

What was the quote? Do we get to know?

What was the quote? Do we get to know?

From this site's FAQ (http://www.fsuniverse.net/faq.html):

Void
Has several meanings - And one day there shall be more I am sure.
Official Skating wise Explanation from Skate Guv:
"Oh gawd that's a tough one to define, better ask christopher dean !!"
It stems from me and sharps watching old documentary about T&D where we pee'd ourselves laughing at the following quote from Chris, which he said, erm, very dramatically "....and suddenly, we found ourselves in this...hole...this huge, big VOID !! We could do anything we wanted to, our only limits were our own imagination !! It's like floating free, it's like being in outer space !!"
"So we use the term "Voidy" to describe anything in skating which is a drama fest ala Dean. You know the sort of thing, angst expressions, hands outstretch, weird programs with weird music, skaters who clearly think they are skating as ar-TEESTES and creating an arty masterpiece...it's all "voidy"

PS: If non skating wise you are in a void. Then you have either been overcome by the porniness of someone or drunk LOL. Also having a hangover can put you in a void too. Basically a trance, yes?

I thought THIS PROGRAM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxjQwiaGsyo) was supposed to be the ultimate in voidy :nopryde:

It's still so painful to watch :D

Does anybody know who Skate Guv and Sharps are? Are they FSUniverse users? When did this historic documentary viewing take place?

sharps is SHARPIE--the board owner, then and now.

SkateGuv is a former admin who no longer posts here.

The viewing took place a long time ago.

Kurt Browning said it on the air once during commentary. And Dick Button either said it or something else from FSU once--I don't remember that one as well.

That one still makes me   all these years later!

Less laugh-worthy, but definitely in a void, I love this recent performance by Laetitia Hubert!

Laetitia Hubert "Black Shoes" at Caesars Tribute II (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kbQcZ6gkdg)

She's still doing her own thing (alas, without those huge :kickass: but inconsistent :wuzrobbed: triple jumps)!!

It's the 1970s :) a time when bright lemon yellow was a considered neutral and the inspiration for the men of the HOI Corps de Balett was Ron Jeremy...

Holiday on Ice (Blue Division) - In Rhythm Opening Number (1977) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUhymGAU3Zk&feature=relmfu)
Once you get over all that glorious yellow and feathers and the too-tight pantsuits :shuffle: and the rather curious music juxtaposition, you'll see a nicely executed choreographic creation from Stephanie Andros. :summer:

...and something (just a little) more sane for you all, nice solo from :hat1: Ricky Inglesi at the end of the number:

Holiday on Ice (Blue Division) - Spectrum Rock (1973) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmkX2An3yGQ&feature=relmfu)
Featured skaters: Ricky Inglesi and Mitsuko Funakoshi

Angelika Krylova + Oleg Ovsiannikov show us that not only do they own Malaguena, but Carmen as well. :drama: :kickass:

Malaguena (The Art of Russian Skating, 1998) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwiQi9Wdt-A&feature=related)

Carmen - Nagano Olympics 1998, Free Dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cphQkdw4fmw&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLCCC9D34EF8314E72)
Technically a competition piece, but this one is such a great performance.

I'm sure Ice Theatre of NY has some voidy stuff.
