Love the waltz music. Always nice to hear something new. To me, it sounds like it has the right kind of air about it to have been on the Godfather movies soundtracks, even though it has nthing to do with those movies. I just hear something that would make it fit in with those pieces.

This will be a boost to the popularity of this music for Hopkins. So many people didn't know he wrote music and now more people around the world will know (thanks also to the wonderful Andre Rieu). If he knew, he'd probably be pleased.

Cherub721.. I'm in complete agreement with your post ..right down to disliking K/O's Carmen ..( much too much face , among other problems ).

I know Tessa and Scott are capable of making this the definitive Carmen for years to come , if Marina is at the top of her game.

Do we know yet if they're using the suite, or excerpts from the opera ?

Love it...."too much face" needs to become a figure skating meme. And it's own acronym.

I must say - i love this waltz. Cant wait to see, what T-S will made with this music.
And Hopkins is such a talanted person. :kickass:
Cant wait to read, what PJ are thinking about there Carmen version.

You and I might well be the happiest V/M fans now, no country music for the short dance and we can put Funny Face behind us with Carmen.:D

Gosh, that waltz is lovely. I can't wait to see that. :D

As for Carmen, I'm thrilled. When I first heard the rumor, I was :wall:. After getting over the shock, however, I sat down and listened to my favourite bits of Carmen with V/M in mind, and I could just see it. I got goosebumps just thinking about it. Say what you want about the music, but V/M are without question the right skaters to pull it off. Passion, drama and sharpness work so well for this team, that I think this will be a fantastic FD for them.

The article containing Tessa's quote (http://www.tsn.ca/figure_skating/story/?id=404681) (second half)

Virtue and Moir also have two new programs, including their free dance to the opera "Carmen."

"It's perhaps an overused piece of music in the skating world, but we heard it and it's so powerful and emotional and really dramatic and so something we haven't done before," Virtue said.

The world champions who are known for their intricate lifts and spins said their new programs are as demanding as any they've skated.

"Right now they feel pretty demanding because we're early in the season, all the tricks are new, when we skate it right now we have to think a lot," Moir said. "But that's the sign of a good program, we joke around and say we don't want it to be easy this time of year, because it means the programs aren't good, and we definitely feel we're challenged."

Man, I was so excited to read that the FD music was Lacrimosa. I'm curious to see what Carmen will be like, especially b/c they haven't skated to a ridiculously dramatic piece in the past. So curious to see what the programs will be like!!

Can I just say I'm in love with this music and yes I've listened to it four times already since I read this is what they are using for the SD...it's so beautiful!!! I'm glad to hear the enthusiasm from Tessa in regards to Carmen, I'm hoping and praying it does and will meet expectations (the positive ones--that it will be a Carmen for the ages).

So what I'm looking forward to the most is the SD and second, the battle of the Carmens (as Gerbil puts it) between V/M and C/L. I really like C/L and I love V/M, so it's kinda fun that they're both skating to Carmen. A little less than a month to go now to see the programs, yay! Btw how did we watch Finlandia Trophy last year, did we have to wait for youtubes vids?

Thanks!

LOL @

"Unfortunately we had to incorporate polka into that stunning music"

And interesting that they coworked with a modern dance choreographer Jennifer Swan who also worked on the Pink Floyd program. A modern interpretation of Carmen??
