I want to know why they picked Carmen. Can't be for the drama alone. Did they want to do something specific with it, or was Marina just out of ideas?

Maybe Tessa had a dress she really wanted to wear? I'd definitely make all my music choices based on costume potential. ;)

Hopefully at some point they'll talk about the choice and how they ended up at Carmen of all things....

Very cool that both MJ Stong and E Tchaikovskaia wanted to see V/M dance to this music!

Im not surprised. Listening to the music I can already picture them skating it. It's perfect music for them. It's the same feeling I had when D&W announced Die Fledermaus.

Carmen I just have to wait and see. A tweet from PJ on it:

Pj Kwong ‏@skatingpj
Tessa said herself that she knows it has been used a lot - but fell in love w/power of Carmen music

Cant wait to see - could V-M show something dark and dramatic.
Yes me too pani. I'd love to see them do something dark and dramatic. Since it has to be Carmen, hopefully that's what they'll do.

PJ tweeted she haven't seen "Carmen" yet so maybe they will skate it tomorrow?
I think sometome skaters feel pressure - they could love music, but couldnt use it, because it overused. But sometime this music could suite them very well.
I hope T-S will enjoy new programs :)

There are many powerful pieces of music out there! Sigh....

I think it at least contrasts nicely with the music they are using for the SD. Each program should give something very different. They must feel somewhat confident with it if they agreed to do it and grew to love it AND still kept it knowing another team will skate the same. So I am going to clutch that straw and hope they surprise and convince me. I'm less concerned now with the choice as I feel the SD music will be strong for them.

I post this before - all other dramatic music didnt have dance rythm (,aybe only Traviata and Masqarad have it), wich Carmen have.

Elena T. didn't do her Federation any favors by suggesting the music to V/M, especially in the run-up to Sochi. It's cool that she wanted to see the music danced to properly, and didn't want to wait for a Russian team to do it. Hopefully the choreography meets expectations!

Is it my imagination, or did Elena T help with T/S CD @ Olys in Van? Or was it a different Russian coach?

The same. She was Zueva coach in the past.

I haven't seen this video of Tessa & Scott posted before. It's their Blues CD from the 2005 Jr Worlds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWae1jTR1TY&feature=plcp

The steps are labelled, which is a help to any fan trying to understand this season's Blues Pattern Dance grading for Juniors.

They really catch the spirit of the blues in this clip.

Great find, thank you! That account also has pattern dances with labels for Yankee Polka featuring V&M (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC626upyaBA&feature=plcp) and D&L (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhZ4fv6KDXw&feature=plcp)... very helpful stuff.

thanks for posting this quote, bmcg..

"Tessa said herself that she knows it
has been used a lot - but fell in love
w/power of Carmen music"

that's what i wished to hear! i'd love to see Tessa as the main charachter, taking command of Scott's life :-) i think she has many sides inside herself, like Yuna, for example, and like all the great actresses in history. Carmen is certainly difficult to embody because she's an abstract creature more than a real woman. unless one performs her charachter superficially, as happened often, an actress or dancer really has to go deep in herself to find the same wild, cruel and erotic power of Carmen and portrait it convincingly. the drama is not about gipsy folklore or a generic story of jealousy. its real meaning lays in the conflict between human nature and society. the woman must dominate, not act like a mere sexual object who eventually gets weak and then killed by the man.

Dedicated fans on chat boards have their strong opinions. The average fan who flips on the TV or that will sit in the audience come Worlds in CANADA will probably be thrilled to see a program with familiar music. Will be interesting to see how the two Carmen programs go through the season. T/S compete against C/L at least 3 times. Finlandia, Skate Canada and Worlds.
