Favourite Bronte Sisters Novel?

New film adaptations of both Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre last year. Yet, whilst these two novels have had multiple film/TV adaptations, the rest of the Brontes works have not received anywhere near the same kind of attention from film and TV producers. Indeed, Villette has only been adapted once - back in 1970 by the BBC. Sadly, it appears as though this production no longer exists in the BBC archives. The only adaptation of Shirley was a 1922 silent movie. Agnes Grey and the The Professor have never been made into a film or for TV. Nevertheless, there have been 2 TV versions of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall - the brilliant 1996 BBC production starring Tara Fitzgerald, and the BBC also produced another version in 1968 (the 1968 version is also believed to no longer exist in the BBC archives). Hence, I hope that these other novels gain greater attention from film and TV producers in the future

Jane Eyre (Best Adaptation) - BBC 2006 miniseries starring Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson (cinematically, however, the 2011 film starring Mia Wasikowska is simply stunning)

Wuthering Heights (Best Adaptation) - 1939 film starring Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon. Very difficult novel to adapt, and each of the adaptations so far has its faults. However, I think the 1939 film remains the best, closely followed by the 1998 TV movie starring Orla Brady. The 1998 version is more faithful to the book (with the 1939 film omitting a large portion of the novel), but the 1939 film better captures the atmosphere and the dark essence of the novel.

I find the rel life story of the Bronte sister much more interesting than any of their novels.

I've read all but Shirley and The Professor. Liked them all, though WH is rather gruesome, but Jane Eyre is still my favorite. When I read it for the first time, I remember I got called away just at the most exciting part, and I literally ran to get back to it the moment I was free. :)

Second favorite would probably be Tenant.

Glyn Hughes "Bronte" is a fictionalized account of the early lives of the Bronte family. It was published in 1996 so it might be a bit hard to find now but it is a very good read.

Love Jane Eyre, detest Wuthering Heights. The only other one I've read is Vilette, which I enjoyed, but not as much as Jane Eyre. I mean to get to the others someday but it hasn't happened yet.

Ok, I'll be the odd ball and say that Wuthering Heights is my favorite with Jane Eyre second. I can't put my finger on it but something about the darkness of that novel that I find interesting. Plus, I love the song that Kate Bush wrote, though I love Pat Benatar's version more.
