If i'm floored then i can only imagine how he feels. I do wonder why the top teams are being referred to as KIDS though. I am wondering where the top teams will go or who will be going to Canton. Not that Marina is not competent but clearly Igor was the framework and she was the rest. Both equal but different in function and expertise.

THere is only 1 Igor and he's the best at what he does. Maybe Linichuk and karpanasov will be getting phone calls. I'll tell you though that Camerlengo's group is quite crowded. I cant see him however turning down at least one of the pairs.

I think that to the number 3& 4 teams, this has got to be heavy on the sweet and light on the bitter for them.

I do hope though that for the top two teams that they do nothing other than grow and develop. I also hope professionally that everything can be reconciled.

I won't be surprised if he ends up coaching for Russia, and that this was someone's evil plan all along. :slinkaway

Piseev working behind the scenes, weaving "Dynasty" style intrigue to get Shpilband fired and working in Russia.

Yes.

And Cappellini/LaNotte were supposed to move there.

So maybe R/T and C/L were the two new teams that broke the camel's back?

(R/T were only supposed to be in Canton for the Summer though)

Wow. I haven't been able to get much past "holy crap" when it comes to processing this.

 Too true. There isn't even anything about it on Phil's Twitter....
I may have spoken too soon. After all, how often does Phil Hersh pay attention to Dance?

This is quite an unprofessional way to fire someone. For a coach of Igor's caliber, I would think they would have given him a few chances to improve or come to some sort of mutual agreement. Maybe they did and we don't know about it. It seems like Igor definitely did not see that coming. I can't imagine he is that clueless. The only time you get fired so fast is for stealing, sexual harassment or workplace violence which would fall under zero tolerance.
What irks me is that they keep referring to the skaters as kids and that these "kids" wanted him fired. The rink manager and owner seem to want to appear all innocent in this by putting the blame on the top three teams. There is definitely more to this than meets the eye.

There's Johnny Johns there.

But yeah they would want another high profile dance coach to help out with the 34254354 teams that they have.

Although maybe some teams might be loyal to Igor and will follow him?

But are there that many teams in Canton these days?

Yes.

That is why my first thought was "sexual harassment" or something else of this calibre. :/

But to be honest given how many high profile teams they had, most likely it all finally fell apart with some skaters feeling that Shpilband was favouring others and not them and feeling that he didn't have enough time for them (whilst in reality he probably didn't have enough time for anybody given how thin he was spreading himself).

Isn't Johnny Johns a pairs coach? I know he works with the teams but they need another dance coach in addition to him and Marina.

Shoking!!

But I am sure some FSU insiders will tell us more about it. This news might explain some of Virtue/Moir's reactions in the kiss n' cry this year...

I haven't been paying attention. Could you elaborate?

Both Ice Dance and Pairs.

From the Arctic club website:

'Coach Johns was the U.S. National Senior dance Champion in 1973, U.S. Pair Champion in 1974 & 1975, and World Team member from 1971 - 1975.'

But yes, he's mainly a Pairs coach now.

What a coup for Jo-Ann Barnes. Phil Hersh must be burning the phone lines right about now.

Jo-Ann Barnes is made of win today

Seriously shocking

I doubt it's sexual harrassment otherwise they wouldn't be bringing in the top dance teams as an excuse.

I'm finding it very bizarre. You coach to 2 olympic medals, 3 world championships in a little over 2 years .. and you get fired.

It's not like he's not going to be very wanted somewhere else .. I wonder if Russia would want him but perhaps he doesn't want to return there.
