I may have missed a post somewhere but haven't seen any reaction to this comment rebutting the facts of the original article by someone (Jacqui White) more knowledgeable than we:
http://www.freep.com/comments/article/20120603/SPORTS18/120603037/Coach-Igor-Shpilband-Canton-Figure-Skating-Club

We discussed that upthread a while back (I don't remember what page, sorry)

Igor has been in the US for a long time. He's married and raised children who have grown up American. Once an immigrant has a family in their new country, it's very disrupting to family life to go back, especially where the language and life is so completely different.

The 40 something coaches with teenage children have not rushed back home to Russia. They've stayed in North America.
Dmitriev went back when his son was a teenager or close. Rodnina wanted to take her daughter back to Russia when she left the US, but her ex-husband wouldn't let her take her out of the country. (I think her daughter eventually went to Russia for university.) Navka and Zhulin's daughter was a lot younger when they moved back.

I'm not saying that Shpilband is any rush to move to Russia, but that it's not impossible, and it is a different place from when he defected. Zavozin and Makarova are two children who moved back to Russia to train, leaving their coaching parents behind.

Ugh. Who cares about Linichuk? She's a desperate has-been. :scream: I despise her for creating dances that relied on costume handles to facilitate lifts and such. gaaaaah. Foul play. Foul play.
Word.

If one could get Karponosov away from Linichuk as a technical coach, I would be interesting in seeing that.
Every time I see them together off ice, it's like he's on a leash.

I loved the programs the last two years Blanc/Bouquet skated. However, the super voidy choreography did little but amplify that they were not the most technically gifted skaters. :shuffle:

Which is why they need Shpilband! :kickass:

I heard that Shpilband is moving to Metulla, Israel.

ESTA is FSU's resident mega-troll who is in love with Oksana Grishuk, types in all caps and has no grasp of spelling or grammar

...or reality...
...but that's what makes it so much fun! Thanks for the attempt at channeling them, btw. I appreciated that:)

At least Linichuk was never dull. You have to give her that.

Tim McKernan just posted on Facebook

"Igor spotting at Compuware!"

(which is an arena not far from Canton...)

I... totally misread this at first. My brain was thinking compuware was a store, and that we had devolved far enough to somehow track the wild habits of the Michigan Igor.

Back on topic... huh. Doesn't look like much going on there, currently. They seem to have ice for sale :o

Woah! Further evidence that all is not let's hold hands and sing "Kumbaya" in Canton. Here's hoping the drama kicks up another notch with D/W and V/M being coached by separate camps. :2faced:

There's not enough coaching talent and :bribe: to make that happen. ;)

It's only summer 2012; A LOT can happen between now and February 2014. See Delobel/Schoenfelder from March 2008 to February 2010 or Shizuka Arakawa from March 2005 to February 2006.

What was going on at Arctic before Igor got there? :shuffle:

IIRC, Arctic was a brand new facility when Igor got there.

Sharpie I also did not know that FSU had a Facebook page. I liked it :) and thought the reason was hilarious.

I'm still speechless on the situation

IIRC, it may have been a new rink.

Compuware is in Plymouth, MI, and they haven't had much going on there figure-skating wise in a while. They used to have a synchro program (Gems on Ice) but they merged with DSC's Team Elan a few years back (and the name was changed to Evolution).
