I have never been to a Canadian skating event and would like to go to this year's Skate Canada. Are there any hotels near the Windsor Family Credit Union Centre? Any restaurants? Thanks.

The following was posted in the old Skate Canada 2012 thread:

Currently, there aren't any hotels within walking distance. Supposedly they're building a hotel attached to WFCU Centre, but not sure when it's supposed to open.

There are no restaurants within 5-10 mins walking distance, I think it's more like 15-20 mins. Within the facility, there's Tim Hortons and the usual vendors.

On the plus side, there's LOTS of parking.

I was looking at Google Earth last night, and it seems there isn't much nearby.

It seems to be one of the closest, so I'm wondering if the Caesar Windsor Hotel and CASINO might be fun. :shuffle:

Does anyone know what the host hotel is?

Does anyone know what the host hotel is?

I think it's the Hilton which is down the street from Caesar's. It's fully booked for SC.

Very excited to say I bought Skate Canada tickets today! I took my mom to Casino Windsor and we swung by the arena to purchase the tickets. There was absolutely no restaurants or hotels nearby that I could find until back near the waterfront and the casino. It was about a 15 minute drive in mid morning traffic. Looking forward to October!

Can anyone recommend a shuttle service from the Detroit airport to Windsor? Has anyone taken this service? thanks.

I doubt (but don't know for sure) that there would be something as simple as a shuttle between the Detroit airport and Windsor, only because of the need to go through passport control/immigration at the border. I could be wrong but to decrease the hassle factor, it would seem to make more sense to stay on the Windsor/Canadian side of the border.

I am actually flying into Detroit and then staying on the Windsor side for the event. A poster sent me a PM about RobertQ transportation which will provide shuttle service from the Detroit airport to Windsor (and back) for a very reasonable fee.:) So now I am off to book my flight.
