I think we're an episode behind up here: the only one I could find all week was the sabotage episode. Talk about inequity in the what they each to deal with. Even though I don't like Martie, she was a star in that challenge.

So I take it, instead of dropping three, they dropped two? I haven't seen the pilots, but I wouldn't watch Michelle's show: I don't like her food, and I don't like her enough to overcome that. I'm still annoyed they let her get away with copying a drink instead of creating one.

I would have watched Nikki grill, just for the grill porn aspect of it. But then, I get my cooking inspiration from Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. I feel glee when they dump huge amounts of spices into the giant bowls. It's like going to the Costco Museum and staring at two-gallon jugs of mayonnaise.

I'm really sad Eric and Emily left. I think had the final should have been Eric, Emily, Justin, and either Ippy or Yvan. I like Ippy. Some of the others, I think their personalities would be grating after a while, but I think Ippy would grow on you, in a good way.
I like Ippy, too. His personality is not cut out for a contest that constantly demands "Now." For him to have had a chance, the judges would have had to decide to switch their point-of-view and be sold on his approach.

I hope Yvan wins the whole thing, and that Eric gets something down the road.

So glad they got rid of Nikki. She is just not likeable on television. She comes across as incredibly fake and brash. There is no way Michelle will win, but she is much more real than Nikki, so good for her to make the final. And :respec: to her for representing the wonders of New England.

I am pretty sure "The Network" would have preferred to just eliminate both Michelle and Nikki, and have the final three be Yvan, Justin and Marty. But they were constrained by the team concept. I liked the concept initially, and it was cool to see the judges get so invested in their team members. But then it started to seem like the need for balance across the teams was affecting some of the elimination decisions. Isn't it convenient that the number of people remaining on the teams never differed by more than one? And that in the end there were exactly two left on each team?

Of the remaining four, my preference is for Justin. But that dish he made for his pilot just looked disgusting. What was he thinking?

I'm pretty sure I'd never make a creamed corn mac n cheese. ;) That doesn't mean I wouldn't watch his show, but Yvan better bring something something more interesting.

I actually would make an aspic like Justin demonstated, mostly because I LOVE a good Caesar Salad.

I also think we haven't seen the end of Ippy and Eric either. Both of them have good POV's and I think can be made to be better on TV.

All of the above.

Justin works because he is an updated version of Alton, whose concept is almost 20 years old.
I believe that Alton would prefer to create, produce and direct, now
My favorites of the eliminated contestants are Eric, Emily and Ippy.

Justin's pilot is just a "jumping-off" point for him.

Martie's stuff is just perfect for Cooking Channel, which I suspect is the reason she's still in. I prefer Justin to Yvan, but I'd be happy with either one winning. I like Michelle, but I don't think I'd watch her show.

I agree with this, as well.

The network/channels may need an "updated" Paula, in case she decides to do other things.
Martie can fill that niche, if necessary.

I was impressed with her pilot.
It wouldn't surprise me if they do something with it, even if she doesn't win the public vote.

Wrote them an email complaining about how only facebook users can vote online. Those of us who won't go near FB get shut out or have to call. Just not nice.

I don't see Marty as an updated Paula Dean (maybe because I can't stand Paula). I think she'd be better marketed as a lower-end Barefoot Contessa. That probably sounds mean, but I don't mean it to be. I really enjoy the Barefoot Contess. But, really, how many of us have her life?

That sucks. I'm not on FB either, but good thing I don't really care to vote in these things.

Regarding voting, I wonder how having 4 finalists rather than 3 will affect the outcome. Will Marty and Ivan split Team Alton's votes? Or are they too different?

I guess it depends who you like. I like Paula Deen and Barefoot Contessa, but I can't stand Martie or however she spells it. I found her pilot to be the worst of the four and was actually surprised she made it as far as she did in the competition. I would have had her out of there weeks ago. I seriously doubt this woman could teach me anything that I wanted to learn.

I love Justin and hope he wins. I may never cook any of his food (aspic Caesar Salad, um, don't think so) but I would tune in just to see what crazy idea he comes up with next.

I think the four are VERY different from each other, so I don't think that will be an issue.

Unless Martie gets all of Alabama to vote for her, I gotta figure that it's between Yvan and Justin. I don't think Michelle will be close, not enough people like her to want to vote for her.

I have a feeling Justin is going to get a show anyway. But I am fine with either him or Yvan winning.

As much as I would like a seafood show, I'm not digging Michelle. We already have Guy Fieri and Anne Burrell. Michelle seems like what you would get if they had a kid.

I can't stand Martie. And I say this as a proud Southern girl (Arkansas). The "party time" concept has been tried already - and I felt like she didn't bring anything better or even new to it.

That's why the outcome of the public vote doesn't matter to me.

I really liked Ippy, and I do believe a show can be built around his laid-back personality. Every TV chef can't be perky and in-your-face!!!! Some of that sounds forced.

I like Ippy, also.
If TPTB don't think he could carry a regular show; they might do an occasional "laid back/Hawaiian lifestyle" special.
If the response is positive - as could well happen - it might lead to more.

Yvan (IMO) had the best pilot, but the worst food. Talk about semi-home-made. :scream: Justin is the most interesting, but perhaps too eclectic for Food Network, but he gets my vote.
