View Full Version : US Figure Skating Tweets About $500K Ring

US Figure Skating via Twitter just tweeted, "U.S. Figure Skating‏@USFigureSkating

So this is what $500 K ring looks like. At Borsheim's in Omaha, one of the largest independent jewelers in the U.S. http://pic.twitter.com/W4fF79LM

And subsequently,

Thanks to @borsheimsbrk in Omaha, Neb. for their hospitality! Owned by Warren Buffett"

Agnes Zawadzki was photographed modeling/sporting what was probably at least a five carat solitaire on her pinky.

I wonder sometimes what planet US Figure Skating is on.

It's in Omaha? Are they providing financial support for 2013 Nationals? If so, I guess it pays to advertise your sponsors.

Then it might have been more tasteful to feature more reasonable jewelry that the other 99.9% could afford. IMO, it's just plain stupid.

I don't get it...? Am I supposed to be outraged about something or what?

I'd try it on! Agnes looks so pretty and the ring is perfectly blingy! I'm not feeling outrage....

It's publicity. *shrug*

Borsheim's has long been one of the most prestigious jewelers in the US.
I don't find this publicity "upsetting".

Haha, women like expensive shiny things, amirite?

Eh, give them a break. I think they're just trying to keep things light and show a cute photo of Agnes... in Omaha... wearing something really outrageous... because there is some life outside of the 2013 nationals arena in Omaha. It's all in fun.

Besides, their current social media guy comes from a Midwest (Ohio State alum) minor league pro baseball background. Sometimes things he posts are a bit of a stretch for the average skating fan to actually care about... but I do see an improvement over recent years.
If anything he thinks,
A) that's a f#%#)*% expensive ring,
B) that's a cute photo of Agnes,
C) this is a relevant attraction in Omaha,
D) this is worth a laugh, and
E) hmmm... gotta meet my professional goals set my manager of making X-# of social media postings in the off season... and man this is going to be hard. ...or someone else in HQ staff thought it was funny / super cool and told 'em to put it online.

I wouldn't read into it that much. I feel like I already did in this response justifying why not to, LOL! ;)

At least it shows they're aiming for more desirable demographics than, say, ads for cancer.net or Depends.
