This is amazing... I give credit to Taso for introducing this to me.

This girl is 12 and portraying a crazed exotic dancer.... and she is actually really good. I wonder whatever happened to her. Sylvia?

Joanna Ng 1990 Skate Canada
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=TlDBuOkNfvo#t=173s (this is where the program starts; go to the beginning to see a long fluff piece with Frank Carroll).

In regards to Joanna Ng, she had only middling sucess in senior nationals then went to Taiwan to represent them and I think went to Senior Worlds. She was 2nd at Junior Worlds and second in both Novice and Junior, I believe in the US, but was much higher than 11 or 12 in Senior. She has an extensive professional career. She was Pocahontas on Disney on Ice and a bunch of other things. Now I think she choreographs for cruise ships and other tours.

She has a website.
However, it seems as though it hasn't been updated in a while.

I'll never call Frank or USFSA fuddy duddy again! Who choreographed Ng's program - did she do it herself?

^^ At the age of 12, I would be surprised if Ng choreographed it herself. Quite interesting all the richness and forgotten facts/ performances from figure skating's past.

I wonder if Kwan was inspired by Ng to take her senior test early (w/o Frank's knowledge) and debut at Senior Nationals at the age of 12?

I was super confused about the content of her program. She only did two jumps. Was it a long program? Or some sort of exhibition program? She went to the kiss and cry so I assume it was a long program. She did about fifty spins. I don't recall her ever being able to do much more than a triple toe even in practice her entire career.

NVM-early in her career she tried a decent flip, an okay toe and a good sal nd toe out of footwork at the Olympic Festival the next year. I think she was mostly overshadowed and between by Lisa Ervin and by the end of her career puberty hit her and toe was all she had.

This is an example of a skater who doesn't need to be taught to use music. She just does and it is so innate and intuitive. Even if a choreographer gave her the moves, the interpretation has totally come from her. And not a wasted note of music and so many interesting moves and ideas. Thanks for posting because it was really worth seeing that.

I would be surprised that any adult came up with a program like that for a 12 year-old. She seems to have an inner-fabulousness. Eat your heart out Johnny!

Ha ha, why does Johnny need to "eat his heart out?" Most likely if Johnny saw this vid of Ng, he'd be amazed, amused, perhaps inspired, and clap right along with the rest of us. :)

Is Sinead really wearing Daisy Dukes??? Good God, she came *thiiiiiiiis* close to making me hetero. (But then I remembered her hot brother wearing a kilt, and I was back to my old self again.)
