Full field of 20 with a very quality field. 9 of the 20 started in the Breeder's Cup Juvenile which is unheard of.

Animal Kingdon's Graham Motion/Team Valor hope to repeat with Went the Day Well.
Michael Matz, trainer of Barbaro enters with Union Rags the 2nd choice
Daddy Long Legs is Dubai's annual entry. He just won the UAE Derby on World Cup Day in Dubai.
Hansen, the 2011 BC Juvenile champ is back.
Bob Baffert, back from having an MI in Dubai has the favorite Bodemeister (named after his son Bode who is named after Bode Miller) and Liason who is not the favorite ;)

And this is the first time in years that they have an AE list (also eligible) They can be entered by 9am Derby day if a horse on the entry list drops out. They will then have post 20 and the other's move inward. My Adonis is the AE for this year.

A bit more information to add to Skipaway's excellent post - lifetime records, graded-stakes earnings and photos of the horses. Haven't seen too many white horses run this race, but this year's Hansen is a beautiful animal.

pollyanna, have you followed Hansen's owner's attempt to allow the dyeing of Hansen's tail and mane? It's been hilarious. Look at the women in the article with their outfits.

 ZOMG, that is priceless! No, I didn't know, but I do have to wonder, what is so wrong with a dyed tail? It's not like it's giving his horse any kind of advantage in the race, is it? But still,

I don't know, all the other horses will be laughing at him and use up their precious energy they need to make the mile and a quarter.

That, or they'd all be envious. They'd all want to have a look at his dyed tail, and line up behind him on the track to have a look. Easy way to cross under the wire first if all the other horses are having a gander at your tail!

I think it's hilarious.

Please tell me they will be playing "mmmmmBop" as this horse enters the the racetrack.

The horse is from Lexington?? I would not be surprised one bit if the owners/trainers or whatever were UK basketball fans. I have to admit, using the color blue is a pretty smart way to get a LOT of Kentucky's support.

Just a quick congratulations to jockey Rosie Napravnik, first female jockey in Kentucky Oaks history to win. She won on Believe You Can. She comes from the Maryland circuit and is really making headroads into the top echelon of racing. Last year, she came in 2nd at the Oaks. Nice progression Rosie!

WOW!!

What a race!!

Congratulations to the I'll Have Another connections and there's a Canadian connection too. Would have loved to have been at Hastings Park a few minutes ago and right now.

Could not have asked for a better Derby. It had a little bit of everything and...

WOW!! :D
