Business attire in Israel is a t-shirt that isn't torn and doesn't have an obscenity on it. And a skirt that covers the hoo-hah. Yes, even for women of advanced age.
That is not true; a skirt is quite dressed up! Jeans are much more common. There are certainly severe taste issues.. for instance, yesterday I saw a woman of a certain age wearing a strapless animal print jumpsuit. Now that was painful.

For orthodox but not ultraorthodox women, it's not too bad - below the knee skirts and elbow length shirts. That's manageable, I think.

I read a story about an Israeli on his first trip to New York, who was baffled by all the religious Jewish women on public transportation. Finally it dawned on him -- or it was explained to him -- that these women weren't religious, or even necessarily Jewish. They were just dressed the way American women dress to go to work. Which is usually trendier and showing more than Orthodox women, but still conservative by Israeli standards.

I didn't realize Israelis were so untiffed. Meh. Guess shouldn't judge them all based on Bar Refaeli. :shuffle:

Alright. Going to a Bar Mitzvah on the East Coast in the fall. Thinking of wearing this for the service in black: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/adrianna-papell-pleated-jersey-sheath-dress/3034652 Love the shoes on the model, btw.

and this to the party: http://cdnd.lystit.com/photos/2012/02/09/calvin-klein-blueberry-stretch-luxe-twist-neck-sheath-dress-product-2-2869564-911246590_full.jpeg

Both with nude closed toe patent pumps.

A bit late but, I too love both those dresses!!! Heck, nude patent goes with everthing... :D

Thanks! Agree about nude patent going with pretty much everything.

Seriously, you can never have too many pair of shoes :D.

Our client event was Wednesday. I wore the red dress, this one: http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/diane-von-furstenberg-dress-kimmie-suiting-sheath?ID=596313&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results

cruisin, love the dress and shoes. But when you mouse over the details of the dress in red, you see deodorant stains on the skirt near the hem in front and back! And they didn't even bother to photoshop it out!

Bar is pretty, but her look is kind of boring. I'm not a fan - but then, I'm not the target audience.

Israel is a pretty informal country in many ways, clothing included. A lot of the things people have posted in this thread are very pretty - like cruisin's dress and shoes - but I probably wouldn't have anywhere to wear them to; no point in being completely overdressed compared to everyone else. Same goes for makeup, some of which probably wouldn't survive an average summer day here anyway ;).

But truly, some of the stuff people here wear in public is atrocious and nothing can excuse it.

Oh, not the clothes - it's more like, she's pretty but not interesting. She has a great body (not sure how well it'll hold up) but there's nothing about her that makes me want to look twice. There are better and more unique looking women (and models) in Israel.

Her face isn't particularly arresting, I agree. It's pretty but not very striking. I think her body will hold up very well, particularly since she has the resources to maintain it.

I didn't notice that, is right! Mine did not come with deodorant stains, you must have to pay extra for them :D.

I am considering getting on live chat and letting them know about this. Should be easy enough to fix. I like Nordies.

The dress is Bloomingdales. I like Nordstroms, but around here it seems that they don't get a very good selection or size range. They are better on line than in the store. I like Bloomingdales better, here. They get more pieces in store and get multiples of sizes. Neiman and Saks are good here too. Maybe it's just that the Nordstroms in Short Hills is competing with those other 3, so they cut back on merchandise. The Macy's in that mall is awful. But, I think that any time there is a Bloomingdales and a Macy's in a mall, Macy's doesn't bother much with their namesake store, they focus on Bloomingdales (which they've owned now for several years). It seems like Macy's in the north east has gone downhill since Federated bought Bloomingdales.

Looking at the dress photo, blown up, it's hard to tell what the whitish areas are. It could just be bounce light from the photo flashes. But, regardless of whether it is deodorant, make-up, or flash highlights, they should have smoothed it out. Sometimes these catalog shots are just not so good. Bloomingdales is usually better than most as far as representing the true color of an item. Oddly, Neiman is the worst.

Here's another good one: http://www.dvf.com/Diane-Hanky-Band-Dress/D5243004Y12,default,pd.html?dwvar_D5243004Y12_colo r=GRBRC&start=3&preselectsize=yes&cgid=cocktail Look at the back view and zoom in at the neckline. You would think they would have cut the neck tags off LOL
