We bought his last suit at the Men's Warehouse. It was an excellent 100% wool and lasted several years. He doesn't want to spend as much on this one. They should have something for him. We have one just about 15-20 minutes drive away.

Via Spiga shoe: DROOL (http://www.hautelook.com/product/3560750) Why, oh why, doesn't it come in a 5?! grrrr

They have this one in a 5.5, would it be worth it to try it? http://www.hautelook.com/catalog/15551#product_3560750

I found you a 5.5. A little more than haute look, but still on sale: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/via-spiga-christina-sandal/3241908?origin=related-3241908-60139357-0-2

wheee, thank you! I just ordered the cinnamon, it'll be more versatile than the red one. I was so bummed that the V.W. from there didn't work out but I really like how quick they ship and their easy returns.

I agree, the cinnamon will be more practical.

Honestly, Via Spiga is a better quality shoe. Vera Wang licenses her name, I have no idea who makes her shoes or where they are made. Via Spiga is made in Italy.

I just got these in black :shuffle:, I was there, they called out to me, and I couldn't resist  http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/via-spiga-rochelle-pump/3275128?origin=category&fashionColor=Nude+Patent&resultback=266

Because the $5K will be a little hard to reach once I put in photography (which I AM willing to splurge a little on...good to get someone who knows what they're doing!), I'm cutting back on a lot of other things, like dress (:cheer:) and flowers. I'll definitely need to drum into fiance's head that less people = cheaper wedding. He said he might invite 20-40 people on his side. Well um, big difference between 40 guests and 80 guests, if you ask me! :P More food/alcohol to get, more chairs to rent, a bigger tent, etc....

Have you gone to http://offbeatbride.com/? It's not always necessarily cheaper, but the community there is quite supportive of ANY kind of wedding you want to think up. :D

I don't know about a wedding under 5K, but I just read that Mrs. Facebook's dress is about 5K or a little less. In the picture, it looked like any good old wedding dress. But in the video, it looked great.

This crowd will appreciate this.

There is one two-piece bathing suit in the world I can wear. I've been waiting for it to go on sale at Nordstrom, but by the time it did, they had only the top, not the bottom.

Put the top in my shopping bag online, went looking for the bottom, found it new with tags in the same color on EBay, bought it, went back to Nordstrom...oh, NO! it's gone!

Don't despair. This is Nordstrom. Called them, they found one in the right size in Oakbrook Illinois, it's being shipped to me now.

Basically a $150 swimsuit for half price.

PRlady, that's great.

Well done ladies, well done!

Went to Woodbury Commons today. Got two DVF dresses. One for me, one for my son's girlfriend - cost half the price of one dress!
3 pair of shoes at Cole Haan - the cost of one pair!
Went to Kate Spade, got my daughter a $350 purse for $100!

It was a mad house! Most of the stores had lines to get in - Memorial Day sales! But, it was a successful trip! Did not over spend (actually spent less than I budgeted for) and got out before the mass exodus.

Are the Cole Haan shoes at the factory outlet store the same as the ones sold at Nordstrom and so on, or is it a separate "outlet version" line?

They're retail, not outlet.

So much good advice on this thread so I thought I'd hijack and ask my question here.

So my boyfriend recently proposed and we're planning a simple and inexpensive wedding in the fall. I do want a dress and plan to go shopping with my mom and see what's out there, but I have no clue what style would look good on me.

I'm rather short (5'3") with a long torso. I'm not exactly thin either (size 10-12ish -- weight is a struggle for me--too fitted and I'm uncomfortable) and definitely want something simple. If I can't find anything in my price range, I'm hoping my mother will make me a dress (haven't asked yet, but while she hasn't sewed much in the past several years, she was excellent in the past, made me so many dresses as a child, and knows her way around a sewing machine).

Anyway, any style suggestions so I know where to start?

Halter style and either natural or empire waist with a straight or a-line skirt with a bit of flow in it like this (http://www.helenebridal.com/Wedding-Dresses/WD5567/). My 5' 2" niece went that route. The halter extended the line of the dress so she looked taller.

I would say an A-line or a sheath style. I would not go full ball gown. ball gowns tend to look chopped off on shorter bodies. I agree with Aceon6, that a higher neckline will give you a longer body line. So will high heels, if you are okay wearing them ;). I honestly believe that strapless if for the very small and perky busted. If you want a fuller skirt, do it with the A-line, it will elongate you. Avoid an actual belt, it will cut you in half.

When is the wedding?
That can influence your choice of fabric.

Suggestions:

V-Neck
Sheath or column style
Skimming the body, to elongate you.
