"Colon of the corpse!" Samantha Fujiyama, the forensic technician, muttered. "That would make a great title for a mystery book." The coroner, Dr. Rowena Quincy, chuckled gently.

"Angelique! I should have known you would dare to show up!" bellowed Baralanabas. He opened the closet and took out his cape and bat-headed cane. Angelique fired the gun again, but there were no silver bullets left in it. Mrs. Squawkers, Alan's other parrot, flew out of the closet and then circled the cage where Squawkers lay dead and bloody. Then she flew in a rage at Angelique, pecking violently at her heavily made-up eyes.
