I'm probably in the minority but I absolutely love the choreography for this FD (Grishuk & Platov at the 1992 Olympics. It's so tightly choreographed.

It was so much more difficult than either the Duchesnays or Usova & Zhulin's programs. I personally would've given them the silver medal, especially since their OD was also a lot more difficult than said couples and Oksana Grishuk could actually do her choctaws (sp?) properly in the blues CD, something that Isabelle Duchesnay or Maia Usova couldn't do.

You're not the only one. It's my favourite G/P FD,and the most undermarked for me:(

I also miss the OSP. A lot of people deservedly love T&D's paso doble but I think Klimova & Ponomarenko's 1987 waltz OSP should be mentioned in the same breath. Such incredibly difficult choreography but they perform it with clinical ease, grace, and flow.

Glad to see others like it too. Dubova's choreographer at the time (I can't remember her name) is incredible but it's rather disappointing that Usova & Zhulin's programs didn't have the same level of difficulty. And Dubova's couples became more and more disappointing as the 1990s went on. I think that perhaps after moving to the U.S, she stopped working with that choreographer (my apologies for referring to her as 'that' - I can't remember her name) she used to work with in the late 80s and early 90s.

Duchesnay's - Reflection FD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qaqag3LTHM)

I know it wasn't very popular, but I at least love the attempt.

That's a stunning FD but their sloppy skating skills really ruin it IMO.

Love love love it. The choreography is so interesting. Plus, it hides Isabelle's flaws.

One more gem from G/P that was not mentioned yet, quickstep OD from 1995 Worlds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EqTmB96Jbk

We are so robbed that we didn't have youtube and fans taping practices in those days, imagine having practice vids of T/D K/P U/Z G/P etc like we have now...

This is definitely one of the greatest OD's of all time. Such close positions and intricate steps.

Practice vids of Grishuk & Platov would definitely be interesting. They had a lot of fights during practice. I even heard rumours of yelling, screaming, face spitting, and even hitting. I have no idea if that's even remotely true though.

what is OSP?

Original set pattern where couples skated a set pattern of steps and repeated it.

This thread is like a breath of fresh air considering how current ice dance sucks so much. Yeah, there are exceptions like Zlobina & Sitnikov's FD, but for the most part, blech.

I'm sure the yelling part is still present in many rinks :D
after all this people are born competitors so can you imagine the adrenaline inside the couple? :D i've heard of a soccher player who got his leg broken in a match but kept running for almost one hour. he was so driven that he wasn't even feeling the pain. yea, it must be the adrenaline. who knows, maybe it's the same when a skater falls badly but immediately gets up and keeps jumping and spinning.
