I think I found the song their icenetwork bio says they are skating to!!! ;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SA_pgXrwfw

TBD 036

It certainly has a distinct beat

Good find. If little else, it does have an audible beat and it comes off as dark and edgy

I agree with most of the "Yes" and "No" music recommendations. I would add Carmina Burana and Bolero to the "No" pile. Carmina Burana is so powerful and uplifting that it would almost blow the rooftop off the arena  Both pieces are pretty repetitive and can get quite annoying.

I was undefeated in the two-hand reel with my partner. Ohhh yeahhh. ahaha. It can get really intricate with the arms. There would be some great partner holds if anyone actually studied Irish dancers and not just the shows. And two-hands are side-by-side dances, which would be great for certain step sequences. It could be done!

I still don't know how well I'd like it, but it could be done.

And I hope Meryl and Charlie do not do it.

I wouldn't want Meryl and Charlie to do it either. But out of curiosity could you link to some music that would be appropriate for an Irish dance of the type you just described? (Sorry that this is OT)

It's not like we have that much on-topic to talk about.

Well, glad we are finding something to talk about, this thread has been hanging around all off-season!

Welcome, circuscandy! Cute username...and I love circus candy!

literaryfreak, you had a great list of music, I agree with all the music NOT to do.
Aranjuez
West Side Story
Carmen
Firebird
Scheherazade
Riverdance or Lord of the Dance

I agree that Scheherazade is too similar (to S&D, I'm guessing) and the first 4 have been done to death. I don't think even V/M are going to bring anything new to the table with Carmen. It actually fits them just fine and I don't think it's going to be anything we don't already expect.
Riverdance, I never want them to do, it just doesn't fit Meryl and Charlie and as far as I'm concerned there's only one team that ever did it well and that was B/K. It was out-of-the-box back in 98 and I enjoyed it then. But the concept of "Riverdance on Ice" has lost its luster to me.

I like your "yes" ideas, too. I just love R&J even though its been done a few times. "The Mission" is a gorgeous piece of music and "Tristan and Isolde" is beautiful, too. Although we are venturing into S&D territory with that one, too.

I don't want them to ever do any musical such as "Oklahoma", or "South Pacific", or anything remotely cutesy. I love Broadway and I love musicals but a lot of those translated to the ice end up being really cheesy. Although I really enjoyed their OD in 2009...that Charleston was great for them but that's the closest I want them to come to musicals.

"Requiem for a Dream" is out...been done too much.

Has anyone used "Heart of Courage"? That is one inspiring piece of music.

They don't need to venture into the realm of jungle music, either. No Savage Rites or Aboriginal dance. Although they would make an awesome Tarzan and Jane! But no, they couldn't use the proper costumes...too much skin.

I think we all agreed that Sinatra wasn't a good choice, and I agree, jobelle, that Elvis isn't either. Or Johnny Cash, or a Western theme. Pink Floyd is out because you know, its been done.

Well, that's about it for me for now. I'm sure I'll think of more!

To be fair to Broadway, Broadway is not just one thing. I'd love for Meryl and Charlie to skate to Once or Sweeney Todd. But I agree that Oklahoma or South Pacific would be awful.

After all, Phantom is also Broadway and it isn't cutesy at all.

Let's not forget about Disney! Beauty and the Beast anyone? :)

Right. I wasn't trying to say "all" Broadway...just the cheesy, cutesy ones!

And let's be honest...Meryl is a Disney princess and Charlie would make a handsome prince and even a handsome "Beast"...but we know they will never do that in competition! Just wouldn't happen but they sure would fit the parts. I think the closest we've come is "Die Fleidermaus" so we'll have to be content with that!

Perhaps they could play with the beauty and the beast theme with another piece of music. I like the idea of Meryl as a princess or exotic beauty and Charlie as a rough-and-tumble character. Just not a Disney-fied version. :)

The story and themes of beauty and the beast are beautiful and timeless and it is definitely a theme that could be explored apart from the actual story. Even taking a classical piece of music and putting a "beauty and the beast" type story could work well.

Oh man. There's so much out there and it would really depend on the sort of mood they want to create/how traditional they want it to be. I chose some of the more modern bands but there is quite a lot out there that mixes the old with the new.

It's hard to find a lot of vids on youtube. Kla do another song called Jasmine that is just unspeakably gorgeous but I can't find it online. (It seriously pains me that I can't find it.)

Why thank you! It's a pleasure to be here! And if I could bring actual candy along with me, I would.

I'm still rooting for Greek mythology! I don't think D/W need to go voidy per se...but IMO they certainly have void potential. And even if mythology wouldn't be considered void they could do something really original with it!

I was searching for something else entirely (a picture of Jerod Swallow's paso doble jacket), and this cartoon of Meryl & Charlie popped up. Too Funny.

I don't know that it suggests any musical programs to me, but I had to share.

That is an ADORABLE cartoon. ahaha perfectly captures the core Meryl and Charlieness of Meryl and Charlie.

Sometimes all I want to do is draw Meryl's fantastic face. I have a goal to reimagine some of their more period or character pieces in uhh vaguely authentic ways. I did it with DF and I may do their 20s OD someday.

It's a strange desire but it makes me crave a big, sweeping, epic, well-costumed FD.

Although TBD is much easier to draw.

I've just read a rumor that the new FD is Notre Dame - I'm not sure whether it's true, though.

In skating magazine "Pirouette" (from september 2012), on the page 21 you may read this (FD Noter Dame) . They are refering to e-mail from Zoueva after Champs Camp.
