Is this the first time that V/M have announced their music before Meryl and Charlie? The last time we had to wait this long we ended up with Samson and Delilah. :swoon: Hopefully we get another masterpiece!

I was thinking the same thing. This feels like Samson & Delilah year all over again.

Well it worked well for them that year! And I think also last year we didn't know until the week of Skate America that they had changed their free dance, right? Both times they came out and stunned everyone with their free dance. So, if that is their strategy again I'm not opposed to it! Don't give people time to pre-judge your programs based on your music :)

You guys are cracking me up with the LOTR stuff.

I agree that the strategy of the wait game for the top teams can be beneficial. At least around this board where there are so many waiting to share their opinions, whether it be negative or positive.

And if it feels like a Samson and Delilah year all over again, I'm all for that! That remains my favorite program of theirs, one that I never tire of re-watching.

A few things that seem quite certain about Meryl and Charlie's programs for this year and next year:
1) We probably won't see them skating to Carmen.
2) We may not see a waltz again.
3) We probably won't be seeing a tango again.

4) Charlie won't be skating with a bald head
5) THERE WILL BE NO MORE BUTTERFLY LEAPS

Why won't Charlie skate bald?

Wouldn't that be a shock!

Why won't Charlie skate bald?

Because Marina loves his hair too much?

There is always a way to sneak in a butterfly leap. I don't think we've seen the last of it.

Can we vbet? I want to put money on a butterfly leap in whatever the FD turns out to be.

Are we sure that Giselle isn't a waltz?

I hope to heck not. The penalties for not being on the right beat in the key points and for skating to the wrong tempo are huge this year.

Waltz is one of the approved rhythms to be included with the Polka, is it not? So they could, in fact, be doing a Wolka.

It is indeed. Rhythms include polka, march and waltz. Thank god. I don't imagine it would be very interesting to see 20 polkas.

According to their interview, apparently Virtue & Moir have included a piece of polka music for "the least possible time". All good!. Trying to skate a 2/4 pattern dance to 3/4 time would not have been good, especially this year when teams lose credit for the key points if the steps are not held for the correct number of beats.

For anyone wanting to have a look at how this year's pattern dance rules work in practice, you might be interested in an article I wrote about the JGP experience with the Blues Pattern Dance.

Frankly, it is rather scary, and I don't feel that the tech panels have done a wonderful job with it so far.
