D/W seemed more connected to each other then i've ever seen them in that FD. It's what a lot of critics and fans have been wanting to see for years now.

Seconding this! I'm hoping it carries them through the off season and they start next year with the same emotion and connection renewed.

Connection was what they were said to be working on this year--I think they made excellent improvement!!

And I love that they are now dancing with their heads and arms --Meryl all the way out to her fingertips! Charlie's head and neck used to be a bit stiff; not in this last performance of DF.

He said in an interview (I think before Worlds) that he and Meryl had gotten quite good at looking like they were "each other's whole world" and especially in this performance, they did.

It was wonderful to see Charlie so emotional at the end of the skate, hugging Meryl, with the standing ovation, and the cheering, and the flowers raining down. A truly special moment.

I suppose next year, they will be trying to maintain these gains, while trying to get back the level 4 for their steps.

Other than that, a bit better staging for entering the ice, and a little better extension all the way out through the toe, and there's nothing else to do.

Except to harness all that KnC silliness from WTT into a kickass polka SD, I hope to Ieva's polka:

It's traditional Finnish, written in 1930 or so, but is also used in Japanese anime as the Levan Polka , sung by the vocaloid Hatsune Miku

A great choice for NHK or 4CCs and WTT next year :)

Love this idea for a polka Doris!

In fact, Meryl could do her hair in ponytails like the vocaloid, and maybe use a similar costume...well, that wouldn't fly, but it would be cool.

Do you remember which article that was in? The quote cracks me up because the coach in my book uses that line when he's instructing his pair on improving their connection. :)

It was an interview on IN before either 4CC's or Worlds. It was quite long, AFAIR.

:D I love that polka ! ( and the hairstyle )..and I think Meryl would look adorable in a short skirt and stay-ups.

How can you win the Team Spirit Award? (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=404254999599447)

I hadn't expected them to be so emotional (it brought me back to the Olympics) but the whole scene is just perfect. Perhaps Sochi will go like this too. :)

Step sequences in hold are something I think V/M are still a little better at (mostly fluidity to my eye, but I guess edge quality too based on protocols) so I hope they might work on this over the summer. I don't want things decided over a step sequence level again in the future.

D/W are a completely different team than what we saw at the Olympics - could you imagine if the same amount of improvement happened by the next one? I hope they keep improving technically, just artistry may not be enough against V/M.

You don't know when the official video came out, do you? Because the video is like a Finnish version of a famous Saturday Night Live sketch, Night at the Roxbury: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpwK3vFGJp0. (An SNL sketch is how I first stumbled upon Meryl and Charlie.)

I actually briefly thought about whether the music in this video ("What is Love") could work as a FD, if a dance beat is so damned important to the ISU.

Have you guys seen Charlie's "coaching" tweets the past few days? They're hilarious! All football-centric and very idealistic about doing it for the team and doing your best. He's pretty intense!

And I must say that after seeing all of Meryl's pictures in the off-ice events surrounding this WTT- she really has the best fashion sense. Really pretty, unique, and eye-catching dresses. Plus great shoes. I want her clothes.:swoon:

Couldn't sleep so I was able to catch the WTT gala. Meryl and Charlie were wonderful and the crowd loved them. The team skate was cute. Charlie led the men at one point and almost left them behind...he is really fast!

Just got done watching the gala. I'm always amazed by Japanese fans. They really take their skating events seriously.
Meryl and Charlie are obviously well liked in Japan judging from the crowd reactions. The crowd really got into their encore of Die Fledermaus and they got a standing O for it :)
