This is making the rounds around Facebook and Twitter today, and much deservedly so!

Caine Monroy is a 9-year old boy who spent his summer vacation building an elaborate DIY cardboard arcade in his dadís used auto parts store [in east LA].A filmmaker stopped by one day for some used auto parts, and was astounded at the makeshift arcade and at Caine's never-give-up attitude, and asked Caine's father if he could make a short film about Caine's Arcade.

I don't want to spoil anything, just watch. :) And bring some Kleenex!

Also, they've been raising money for Caine to go to college. No one in his family has ever gone. Since the short film was released online today, they've raised $28,000 and counting! They actually had to raise the target from $25K to $100K. :cheer:

I hope this little man gets all the support he needs to make his dreams of building awesome stuff come true!

:cheer: The new $100,000 target for Caine's scholarship fund will probably be reached within the day! And to think before Monday, it was less than $1,000.

I love you, internet. :rollin:

Congrats to Caine and a big high-five to Caine's dad for supporting his endeavors!

Hey! Steve Jobs dad was a tow truck driver who dealt in used cars and used car parts, so who knows where Caine will in another 20 years or so! :cheer2:

Oh man, my daughter would SOOOOO want to be there and help him create other stuff! Boxes are THE BEST!!! (she's 10 and still steals pretty much every box that comes into the house. She's made computers, TVs, super spy gear, etc.)

That kid is SO creative. Lee Unkrich (director of Toy Story 3 and the like) tweeted the link to the video; that's how I found out about Caine. Anyway, Lee issued a standing invitation for Caine and his family to visit Pixar if they want. That kid is just the kind of kid that Pixar would hire as an adult, lol.

They actually hit it at about 5:30.

Even if they didn't, if he showed true potential when he applied, many private engineering schools would be chomping at the bit to have him.

Even before the short film dropped, a JPL scientist heard of Caine's project and invited him for a tour around JPL. :)

[JPL rocket scientist] Robert Manning used to make cardboard rockets when he was Caine's age, now he makes real ones.

I think the Mythbusters team needs to pay Caine a visit. :D His dad has reportedly said that's the only kind of TV he'll watch - programs where they build stuff.

Here is a story of yet another amazing little boy. Do Nhat Nam is just 10 years old and from Vietnam and his mastery of the English language is just fantastic. He translated his first book at age 7 and a minor celebrity at home.
