Closest hotel is Marriott University Park (http://www.reservationcounter.com/hotels/show/141260/marriott-university-park/?TID=sYZNFYi6f|pcrid|10587945314&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=%2Bmarriott%20%2Buniversity%20%2Bpark%20% 2Bsalt%20%2Blake%20%2Bcity&utm_campaign=Hotel%20Chain%20M&mm_campaign=61e23501c3a7666376c173fa44c75e69&keyword=%2Bmarriott%20%2Buniversity%20%2Bpark%20%2 Bsalt%20%2Blake%20%2Bcity&hotelid=141260) It east of Steiner (local name for the rinks). It is in research park and very close to the University of Utah - Not a lot of restaurants but that is better than it used to be. On the other hand it is right next to the foothills. If you are a runner or hiker, it would be great.

Most hotels are downtown - The nicest are Little America/GrandAmerica and Marriott. Smaller hotels/inns are plentiful. You will probably need a car. Trax does go up the hill to the University, but it is still a bit of a hike to the rinks.

I wonder if the developmental comp will be held at the same rink, before the main comp begins, or on the same days at another rink.

I would love to go to this but only if airline prices come down.

There are 2 rinks at Steiner. I'm sure the competitions will both be there. It's an excellent facility.

I've been wanting to make the trek out to the Family History library, so this looks like it could be a two-fer!

There are several within walking distance of the Family History Library. Parking can be tricky around the Library. The Plaza Hotel (http://www.reservationcounter.com/hotels/show/173672/salt-lake-plaza-hotel-at-temple-square/?TID=sfGGCjTed|pcrid|11054173394&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=%2Bsalt%20%2Blake%20%2Bplaza%20%2Bhotel%2 0%2Bat%20%2Btemple%20%2Bsquare%20%2Bcity&utm_campaign=Hotel%20Chain%20S&mm_campaign=61e23501c3a7666376c173fa44c75e69&keyword=%2Bsalt%20%2Blake%20%2Bplaza%20%2Bhotel%20 %2Bat%20%2Btemple%20%2Bsquare%20%2Bcity&hotelid=173672)is right around the corner but I don't know how good it is. It should be fine - I just don't know. It is also just a block from the brand new City Creek Center (http://shopcitycreekcenter.com/) - lots of shopping.

Hotel suggestions?

The official hotel isn't available, so I made a reservation at the University Guest House. It's about the same distance from the rink as the Marriott, also on the University campus. I called the hotel and they told me there is complimentary parking and also a campus shuttle that runs during the week. It looks like a nice place to stay.

That is a nice area - renovated Ft. Douglas is pretty. You will want to pin them down on the shuttle. Otherwise you will still need a car. Distances in Salt Lake are not like other cities. Longer blocks and up and down hill in that area. Parking at the rinks should not be a problem (unless there is a football game that weekend - in which case it will be very crowded).

If I inderstand it correc tly, the Canadian Team Camp is the same week as this event. As such, none of team Canada would compete.

I believe the purpose of the camp has changed a bit the last few years. It’s been renamed the ”High Performance” camp and focuses mainly on prepping the skaters who have GP assignments. Possibly the national team members without GP assignments will be allowed to go.

I would also wonder if the Canadian skaters/teams vying for a TBA assignment would be going to Salt Lake to solidify their chances.

Any insiders know when tickets and a schedule with times might be available? I'd like to book my flight soon. September will sneak up on us!

However, the difficulty of finding a bar near a hotel in SLC is sufficient that I hope USFS will choose a different venue in another year.

The above website is happy to inform you that in the whole state of Utah, there are now 400 bars...that is, in 84,898 sq mi or 219,887 sq km...they do say it is now easier to drink in Utah though, than when we went there back in the 1990's.

No worries, it appears that most of the 400 are near the downtown hotels.

Any word on a schedule and how to purchase tix (and how much)? The basic sched posted upthread was helpful, but I'd like to know specific times before I book a flight.

I emailed the USFSA last week to ask when details might be available. I haven't received a response. Shocking. :P
