Well I've been watching videos of his performances for a while now and I think Sasha Abt more than deserves his own thread.

He was such a great skater back in the days and I'll never forget his awesome free skate at the Europeans in 2002 where he came in 2nd barely after Yagudin and many many many people considered him being wuzrobbed.

So just let the Sasha Abt love flow :)

I'll contribute some of my favorite performances of Sasha:

2002 Euros FP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9KzGSgM6sw)
2002 Euros FP (he should've won IMHO ;) ) (http://youtu.be/XdgAIamDJgg)
2002 Worlds SP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPSggbdieJE)

Just like his blades did, long before anyone had heard of Patrick Chan. :EVILLE:

Best. Glide. Evah.

2000 Worlds SP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQF3s-bG8r8)

Selfishly, I'm so grateful he competed in the 6.0 era, CoP would have killed the two best things about his skating - the extreme speed and glide over the ice in his footwork and his exquisite camel spin.

Wonderful World Exhibition (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6v8-_fmnds)

I am forever a Yagudin fan, but I tell ya....Abt was right up there with Yags in my heart. In fact, I wanted Abt to medal at the 2002 Olympics so badly!!! He was gorgeous! So beautiful! I have always adored everything he did. Not bad looking, either! :)

What is he doing now? I remember an "incident" a few years ago...hope he is doing well now.

He was probably one of the most elegant skaters ever :swoon:

I thought this would be a mutual appreciation society for Alexander's abs.

Love, Love, Love this man :D
His 98' SP at the Euro's was also amazing.
I loved the Gladiator free in 00/01 as much as Yagudin's.
Also his free at the 02' Worlds.

A wonderful skater. He does great exhibitions still:

Here's one I liked! Gasolina in Red Square for the Holidays.

Even though you had a typo, I read it as it was meant to be- Abt. No problem.

I loved his skating too.

Sasha Abt was one of the very best and I hated the fact he didn't get the Worlds medal and was only second at Europeans. I loved his musicality and skills.:hat1:

Such a total package skater as well. Coulda had more expression and definately would have been killed for not having the transitions but i really liked him a lot as well.

ITA. At least he managed a Russian National title. :)

I think what's most telling about that 2002 Euros is that when the placements come up, even Yagudin looks uncomfortable, and he looks like he knows he didn't skate great and that Sasha should have won.

I also thought Sasha was severely undermarked at the SLC SP as well. There was no way he should have been behind Plushenko with his fall.

It was Alexei Mishin who called Sasha "a star born too early or too late". It was extremely unlucky that Sasha had to compete the majority of his career while Yagudin and Plushenko were trying to beat each other like crazy.
