What's the difference between seeded and 7-12 if they each get two spots?

Skaters ranked between 1-3 will not meet before the final. Same for skaters between 4-6. This is not the case for the teams ranked 7-12.

and they can choose to skate in 3 GPs

How do they choose which seed goes to which GP event? Is it an idiosyncratic thing?

Do the Australian dance team O'Brien and Merriman get a GP event?

You mean that the world rankings-based GP assignments are based upon the new world rankings, so just 70% 2010/11 and 100% 2011/12? I was never sure on this one.

If all 3 skaters ranked 1 to 3 choose to do 3 GP's each, then you would need 9 GP's to ensure that all 3 skaters never met before the final?

I am guessing the two GPs that count towards the points for GPF will not have another 1~3/4~6 seeded skater.

Thanks, that was going to be my question so I assume If they choose to do 3 Grand Prixs, the top 3 may face each other, there is no way around it.

There are some changes between "season best" and "world ranking". May I ask which listing counts in terms of which 24 are guaranteed assignments? Thank you

Yep. Last season, Kostner and S/S both chose to do three GPs. But because Ando/Kim and P/T weren't on the GP circuit, this didn't happen.

True, P/T didn't drop out until after the assignments were up. They would have skated against S/S in Japan.
