For anyone who is interested, Ian Thorpe didn't make the Olympic team at the Australian Swimming Championships on the weekend. From reports on Facebook from my sisters, the fact that he had a big booger hanging from his nose didn't help.

Surprised to read he is planning to continue his comeback. He is a legend but his time is long passed. He had the right idea when he retired in 2007. Even indicated he might continue to try for the 2016 Olympics, LOL ok. Would he even be good enough to qualify for the Australian Olympic trials at that point (or is there some sort of legends exemption to atleast compete in it).

I am also surprised James Magnussen didnt try the 200 free. I could have seen him doing the 50-100-200 triple at the Games if he had.

Leisel Jones barely made the team, and only in the 100 breast. It looks like her comeback is losing steam.

Alain Bernard didn't qualify for the French team in the 100 free (http://espn.go.com/olympics/swimming/story/_/id/7722906/france-bernard-get-defend-100-free), but it's expected he'll be on the relay team.

James Magnussen was on fire in the 100 freestyle, 47.10, just opened a bit too fast in the first 50 so it costed him the world record but he will be looking for it in London

Other past olympians, Michael Klim (34) and Geoff Huegill (33) did not qualify to the Games, it was expected that Huegill could qualify but he didnīt, he was 5th in the 100fly final

Leisel Jones only qualifying in the 100 breaststroke though will be difficult to beat Rebecca Soni, Lisbeth Trickett (Lenton) assured herself a spot on the team but will swim the 4x100 free relay as her only event in London

That really is too bad. Perhaps he waited too to make up his mind before starting to retrain.
