Wow, how can anyone change their names at 27? I know Sasha comes from Alexandra but I could never, ever get used to someone calling me anything else other than Annie. I find Sasha much more original but that's just me....
Thanks for the article!!!

Based on the ice network article update, 'marketing for a hedge fund' might be closer to a job in investor relations where an MBA wouldn’t necessarily be a requirement. Not to say getting one ever hurt anybody, but depending on what career path she wants to take, it might not be worth the cost of tuition. I've worked for investment companies for over 5 years -more on the reporting and analysis/accounting side- and I'm yet to regret doing Applied Math for my masters instead of an MBA.
Thanks for the info. What does a job marketing for a hedge fund entail?

Granted, Sasha is a lot older, but I did a complete name change when I was 14 and it was surprisingly a lot easier than I thought it would be for me to get mentally adjusted. The hardest part, of course, was for people that had known me by my previous name forever - for the most part, I let them keep using it. But I'm sure it was weird as hell for them - just as it's weird for us to think of her now as Alex Cohen :)

"Sasha" is so much prettier than "Alex." I don't think anyone beats the Russians at coming up with good nicknames. :) But it sounds like "Alex" is only-at-school thing.

Most likely preparing client reports, dealing with existing clients and their questions and concerns as well as trying to get new investors for your hedge fund. Since this is a sales-type job, being young and pretty won't hurt Cohen's case one bit.

Thanks again! The job sounds like a rough gig--13 hour days. I hope Sasha gets the job she wants though.

She never said anything about changing her name! She said that at school she goes by Alex. I'm sure using that name helps her to have a fresh start and not be 'the figure skater.' I'm a little surprised that she's announcing that she goes by Alex though (she also talked about this in the Seattle web chat); That seems to defeat the purpose.

My nephew's name is Andrew. Family has always called him "Andy." Anyone he went to high school with calls him "Drew." It was kind of an "I'm an adult now" thing. :)
