Sasha recently skated at the Citi Pond for Kids day.

performance:http://youtu.be/hHHr34fO0NI
Q&A session: http://youtu.be/r5z139iAtEw (she also talks about her hip injury)
interview:http://youtu.be/IaBhsQ-NBgw
lunch with Children from the YMCA of Greater NY:http://youtu.be/I4gYpV_uZpg

Awww, I was there last week!! :(

Glad she was able to pick herself up so easily after that fall - I'm always impressed that the skaters can do anything on that kind of ice. It was more or less complete slush when I was there - but I guess they'll give it a special Zamboni-ing if you're an Olympic medallist ;)

Thank you so much for this thread. I also, like most of you Sasha fans, feel ashamed that I hadn't heard about this injury! I really don't think she would have been able to compete more even if she wanted to-she's so prone to injuries...hopefully it doesn't bother her anymore.

It's good to see her enjoying life this way and I'm glad she's finally 'connected' with facebook and twitter. God I miss her skating! Being in Europe, I don't think I'll ever see her live again and I feel lucky to have seen her in Paris in 2005!

a) She doesn't want to be recognized
b) She doesn't want to be confused with Sacha Baron Cohen.

Another article, from 2011 (http://eye.columbiaspectator.com/?q=article/2011/11/10/skater-girl):

For Cohen, though, her breaking point was missing the pivotal moment of every teenager’s high school career—prom. It was then she realized how much skating had taken over her life. “I was so focused on skating that I didn’t see the road not taken,” she says.

Prom is so overrated anyway. It was fun but "the pivotal moment of every teenager’s high school career"? Not even close.

Isn't rugby a rather rough sport? I would think that if the broken hip still interferes with her jumping (even if the interference is mental/psychological) it would also interfere with her participation on a women's rugby team.

I immediately thought of football without the helmets and pads when I read she's into 'rugby' now!

Per Sasha in the icenetwork article it's just tag rugby:
http://web.icenetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120305&content_id=27017474&vkey=ice_news

"It is tag rugby," Cohen said in a telephone interview. "I'm disappointed we can't tackle."

Sounds like fun.

c) She wants people to think she used to work for National Public Radio (http://www.scpr.org/about/people/staff/alex-cohen/). :P

A skater (of sorts)!
As her alter-ego, Axles of Evil, Alex skated with the L.A. Derby Dolls — Southern California's premiere roller derby league.

Nice article! Glad to see that Sasha Alex is so grounded and has found a way to keep skating in her life while pursuing new opportunities. :)

I'm sure that SOI is RELIEVED that she's not allowed to tackle! Rugby is ROUGH! (Not to mention she'd never be able to down the beer that's usually consumed post-game. . . )

Could anyone of finance peeps opine about her chances in finance world? Would she have to get an MBA (I would think so)?

Based on the ice network article update, 'marketing for a hedge fund' might be closer to a job in investor relations where an MBA wouldn’t necessarily be a requirement. Not to say getting one ever hurt anybody, but depending on what career path she wants to take, it might not be worth the cost of tuition. I've worked for investment companies for over 5 years -more on the reporting and analysis/accounting side- and I'm yet to regret doing Applied Math for my masters instead of an MBA.
