it is actually a fortunate choice: it means no Polka at the Olympics

That is the saving grace. With the world watching thankfully they won't have to endure the polka.

Love Benji, I remember him from SYTYCD. That piece had some very interesting holds and lifts. IMO they were with the music and although it is a strange choice for swing dancers, they nailed it. I wonder if some of the lifts/choreo could be incorporated into ice-dance.

I thought they were with the music too. Nice performance. I just wish Benji's facial expression was different. It didn't go with the music or performance at all.

My favorite waltz/polka from that year was from Belbin/Agosto: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fj0UzrbSsQ

That's probably my fav B/A program of all time.

Man...this made me think three things. 1) I miss the OD 2) I miss Susie Wynne 3) I wish Belbin and Agosto had had stronger programs/better costumes in 2010. I so wish they had won the bronze in Vancouver.

People need to remember how it went for Belbin and Agosto when they say how much they want Virtue and Moir to leave Shpilband and Zueva. I did not enjoy their (B and A) programs/ costumes at all in 2010 and I had been a fan!

There seemed to be lots of people who thought Belbin improved her skating with Linichuk.

For myself, like you, I didn't like their programs nor their packaging. Belbin very well might have "improved" but it was hidden under programs that didn't suit them and IMO hideous costuming.

In spite of their programs that I really didn't like, I do think they should have won bronze in Vancouver.

Tanith's skating definitely improved under Linichuk. There was a huge, noticeable improvement in a relatively short amount of time.

I actually liked all 4 programs that Linichuk did for B/A, although I will admit I wasn't big on the costuming for the 2009/2010 season. I found them very reminiscent of B/A's early years together when Elizabeth Coates, rather than Marina, was coaching with Igor. (Also, I know I'll get tarred and feathered for this, I think they should have had silver in Vancouver. At the very least though, D/S shouldn't have been anywhere near that podium. Even if they hadn't had highly questionable programs, Max's knees were shot and it showed in his skating.)

It's also important to remember that if V/M were to end up switching coaches, it wouldn't necessarily be for Linichuk. I am in the camp that would like to see them make a change, but I actually don't want to see them go to Linichuk. For one, V/M don't need the technical help, and I think Linichuk's choreography wouldn't be a good fit for them. (For the record, the team I'd really love to see go to Linichuk, at least for a few years, is I/K. I think at this stage they'd benefit from her technical expertise and strictness.)

B-A were 4th at WCh 2008 and second (i think they must get gold) in 2009.
As for Tanith improvement... I feel like she showed better lines, posture, when they did skate fast. But at WCh and OG for me it was Tanith, who i know so many years.
And i think in 2009 there costumes and programs were OK (but they didnt have new elements). But my favorite FD still Chopin in 2008. (even if i think another team could look much better in this FD).
I think people only wish V-M show something different. If they made this with Zueva - who will care? Too much expectations.... And how i think, people more talking about new choreo. So for me its Zueva problem. She could save both teams if she let V-M to work with another choreograhfer.
V-M didnt need to improve technical aspect of there skating, but need to try to improve there artistic skils, they to go out from there comfort zone.
I cant understand, why they play in safe game with ISU and pay so many attention to this dancing and uplifting rules. They need to look at W-P and how people enjoy this downlifting FD.
And i think Zueva need to improve too. So, but her programs this season for me didnt look so great, like it was before (exept C-B FD). I think she need to made some changes in her work, because if this season her team will be on top, who know, what will happened in next season? In Canada W-P had a lot off support from judges, SC and Camerlengo did better work, then Zueva, in last to seasons (considering the level of his skaters, because Zueva had best ice dance team in last 5 years).

I agree with Pani about Tanith & Ben's Chopin programe.
I loved it.
The thing for me was that they were a stunning couple to look at but never really used that to their advantage.
I always wanted them to do a really loud & in your face programe. Such as a Rolling Stones medley (Which would also suit Tessa & Scott) or an 80's pop medley.
They were better than the Tosca programe showed them to be.
I also did not think Meryl & Charlie should have won silver in Vancouver.
Their OD was amazing but for me their Free Dance was just mini pairs skating.

You say that V/M need to improve their artistic skills. I think Funny Face is the most artistic piece they've ever done. The FD only works when they have the correct facial expressions, the correct hand movements, the timing just so, etc. None of their previous FDs were so dependent on correct expression.

This FD was really a stretch for them. They're not just skating prettily, as they did with Valse Triste. They're not just using a general theme, idea, or look of a story, the way they did with Umbrellas. Nor are they just bringing out the soul of a piece of music, the way they did with Mahler. This time, they are re-creating a musical, on ice. To do it right, they have to look and move exactly the way Fred and Audrey did. They have to watch the movie hundreds of times to understand the subtle movements that make the image look the way it did, and then adapt it onto ice. That's incredibly hard, and requires artistic skills that I don't think any other team in the world has at the moment.

After watching their 4CC performance, I think they're finally getting it. I'm hoping that in this time before Worlds, it really comes together for them. I'm also hoping for new costumes, because I think new packaging will bring some fresh energy to the program.

Even if they don't win, I think this program was absolutely the right step for them at this time. This program really focused on their artistic side, teaching them to focus on expression, and how to play to the audience. Now they have next year to take it to another level, and be ready for the Olympics. I credit Marina for bringing this idea back to them.

The Nice arena looks quite small according to the picture that has been posted on its facebook page. It will be easier for the public to see Tessa and Scott's facial expressions, and IMO in this FD that's one of their strengths. At TEB I was close enough to see that and during the FD I was smiling and laughing because of Scott's expressions

When they did their Elvis programe I thought this was a sign of things to come but then they started doing more traditional programes.
Their OD at the 2004 Worlds is one of my favourites (I so wanted that dress !).
Also their 2005 World OD was really fun.
