Why Canada, why??? Why send the trio of Rosie DiManno, Cam Cole, and Steve Milton to report from Nice? All those reporters perpetuate the idea that figure skating is a soap opera, not a sport. Ugh. There are plenty of people ready to take reporting seriously.

Mmm, yes.

I had to skim the Rosie piece in particular for quotation marks so I'd know when it was safe to fully read. She's just an embarrassment. It actually makes me uncomfortable to consider that someone's paid to write like that, and that it could potentially be taken seriously by anyone as reflective of the sport and its athletes and audience.

Milton, for his part, has at least so far refrained from suggesting that V/M's skating makes stevedores cry. ;)

i loved that video.

what is it about fan videos that make me "get" the beauty, the movement, the difficulty, etc so much more than the professional videos?

Because they're shot with love? :P

He's saving it for later in the week.

seriously, that's part of the reason why i feature fan videos along with professional videos on my blog. it gives another perspective, a real sense of seeing it live, and sometimes, it's even better at capturing nuances, complexity, the movement of the hip, etc.

I've only read Cole's article on Chan at Nationals 2011, which I thought was awesome. Why do we not like him?

Does it need to be so over the top? http://sports.nationalpost.com/2012/03/26/cam-cole-world-championships-bring-out-the-best-in-figure-skating/

For me, I think it's the framing. The professional videos seem to be closer-up in on the skaters. The fan videos are typically shot from further away, so it helps you get a better sense of some aspects of a skating performance. I guess it's a "not seeing the forest for the trees" sort of scenario.

Thanks for the vid! I'd say they are holding back a little and hope by competition time they will bring the fierceness to another level.

Still though I prefer the original twirl ending earlier in the season.

Kaitlyn and Andrew skated wonderfully and got the biggest applause from the journalists in the rink.

Actually those were their relatives :)

what do you think of the new ending?

I like it less than the previous ending and it seems to be over in the corner which is a strange place to end it as it looses its impact. I saw D&W changed their ending as well and I have the same opinion of their new ending. Not sure this dance pro is someone I want them to work with again if those are the improvements she chose to make to these two programs.
