I admit that I used a wrong word to describe SoM. A more appropriate choice would've been "a pile of w@nk" ( (c) SHARPIE). :cold:

I can live with that. :)

I've seen the movie, liked it but could not figure out how I knew every lyric to every song. Last month Mom said she played the record constantly when it was really cold (she hates winter.) I don't remember but it explains that at least.

Agreed. I hate SoM and I've never understood why so many people adore it.
It's a phenomenon known as "different strokes for different folks." ;)

Haven't we all not "gotten" some movie that loads of other people love? For me, it's the Brat Pack movies of the '80s, I didn't really connect to those movies the way most of my peers seemed to.

Eleanor Parker was so drop dead gorgeous that it was hard to see her as the :EVILLE: b*itch.

I loved the movie when it came out. I'm bored by it now, but I sure wouldn't call a G rated movie trashy. (Although Julie Andrews' wardrobe was pretty .)

SoM gave the world one of my favorite memes (http://s3.amazonaws.com/rapgenius/4db77_ORIG-look_at_all_the_****s_i_give.jpg).

You link doesn't work for me.

SoM was event TV for awhile, like The Wizard Of Oz.

The music is referenced in popular culture. I loved it's use in the movie Beautiful Thing.

I did the SoM tour in Salzburg back in 1990. Total tourisity, but fun tour. Tour guide was from Mexico and all the tourists were american. Guide said locals had not seen the movie. It was a lovely day, and seeing the film sites in person were fun and just beautiful scenery in and around Salzburg. The music played on the bus non stop - felt bad for the driver and tour guide.

Oh.....I went on that tour in 1971.....goodness. I had forgotten all about it. It was fabulous. I cant imagine that at the time the film was made it wasn't wildly viewed by the local population. It was a big deal.

Remember, though the movie is about a period of time, and about a subject that does not show Austria in a favorable light. I would imagine it is not popular with Austrians of this generation.

Yes. All good people read Go Fug. The first 2 pics are the usual Kate and the third is this suspect new look. (http://gofugyourself.com/oscars-fug-or-fab-kate-hudson-03-2012/2012-vanity-fair-oscar-party-hosted-by-graydon-carter-arrivals-40) Read the commentary.

I know it's somewhat off topic, but my younger sister recently confessed that she was in her 30s before she realized that the Sound of Music didn't end with the wedding scene, for which I was to blame. She reminded me that when we were kids and it was on TV every Christmas Eve I would turn off the television at that point and send her to bed (I'm 7 years older). What? There were Nazis it it? ;)
