I'd add Glenn Close to the best dressed list. ... :) Mature gals have to try harder and have less margin for error ... Glenn couldn't have done it better, last night.

Eh no. Very Krystle Carrington circa 1986 and the fishtail looked like a full bin bag that needed to be taken to the dump. Just like that hideous dress.

Close should have an Oscar already though. Loved her best in "Dangerous Liaisons" when she was being :EVILLE:.

She was amazing in that but for me her best performance is in "Dangerous Liaisons". I think she deserved one for that role.I thought she was robbed both times. She's an amazing actress.

Ooooh, dat's right :duh: , I forgot how fabulous she was in that, too.

I thought Gywneth Paltrow and her cape dress looked amazing.

I agree. She was my best dressed. Loved the dress and cape and her hair. It was a really frsh, modern look. She is one confident woman.

I liked Gywneth's dress but not her hair. I liked it better when it was longer. And I agree that Glenn Close is a good actress but there is something about her that rubs me the wrong way. I don't think I've ever liked a character of hers. She seemed terribly miscast in The Natural.

I was surprised that no Frenchman has won before. I thought Louis Jordan & Maurice Chevallier had at least one.

This morning on GMA, they showed last night's interview where Meryl Streep confessed to Robin Roberts that she was so excited when her name was announced that her belt popped undone when she jumped up. She called it a wardrobe "misfunction."

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/oscar-winners-meryl-streep-octavia-spencer-big-win-15799311I thought she was talking about her excitement when her makeup man won the Oscar earlier in the show? IRC Robin was commenting on Merly seeming as excited by his winning as by her own win.

As all have already remarked, this was a rather flat and boring show, although better than the disaster of last year (which certainly wasn't boring.) But I was very happy with who won all the major awards, so despite the tedium at times, overall I ended the night very happy!

Meryl :respec: :cheer2:
Octavia's :wuzrobbed sppech :respec: (:lynch: to the "wrap it up" directions)
Captain von Trapp :cheer:
Jean :grope: :swoon: :cheer:
The Artist :cheer:

And you KNOW she didn't like that...being mocked. She and Sean Penn go to the Take Myself Too Seriously School of Art.

Add Eminem and Kanye to that list too...no sense of humor!

I can't believe anyone could do that leg thrust move without meaning it as a joke. It was so over the top!

Angie is the honey badger ... she don't care what half of us think, as long as the other half is awed and the press remains interested.

:kickass: Go Angelina! (I think she was being silly both on the red carpet and on stage.)

Being silly or not, Angelina had always been a pro at getting media attention. I've read it that she likes to control everything wrt media exposure and arranges to be "caught" shopping or with her kids or both, looking fab of course.

And the immediate onstage "tribute (http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/02/27/article-2107113-11F11F8A000005DC-950_634x352.jpg)".

And it works - all throughout the telecast I thought 1) she looked great 2) she and the homeless guy she brought as her date were shown way too much 3) the leg thing was awesome 4) the leg thing was OTT and stupid 5) damn she's got nice legs :grope: 6) she's just fcuking with us 7) what a famewhore 8) honey badger don't give a shit :respec: 9) seriously, WHAT is up with Brad's %#@$ hair??? :drama:

I knew Meryl was going to win - 30 years since her last award?!? - but hopefully this will end her string of :kickass: roles in otherwise meh films. Would have preferred Viola or Glenn.

Over the moon for The Artist and Jean Dujardin! And Octavia Spencer!

Billy Crystal was ok - very safe. I did like that the only reference to Extremely Close and Incredibly Loud was "Hanks is just a memory" it was so quick no one else in the room even heard it. But Crystal's face was really disturbing....his plastic surgery is approaching Kenny Rogers territory :yikes:
