Will Australian PM Julia Gillard face an intra-party caucus confidence vote / leadership challenge within the next two weeks? Better yet, let's sweeten this bet by making it a leadership challenge by June 30, 2012. :bribe:

Edited to add: Bet will pay out if Gillard herself calls a vote.

Oooh... intrigue! Imminent showdown or Rudd falling on his own sword?

Bet closing early, Friday 12:00am Australia Eastern time. :bribe:

From The Australian (http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/in-depth/kevin-rudd-must-force-a-showdown-with-julia-gillard/story-fnccyr6m-1226278645110):

WHEN Kevin Rudd returns to Australia on Friday morning he should immediately meet with Julia Gillard and tell her that he is challenging for the leadership.

If Rudd is to maintain any sense of credibility, show that he has courage and that he can put the party and the government above matters of personal rivalry, then he should force a showdown now.

Rudd's actions have denied Gillard a chance to sack him or to call a ballot to resolve the issue. For now, and against the momentum of the past few days, Rudd has gained the upper hand.

But in order for Rudd to maintain his authority and push momentum towards a leadership challenge, he must not miss the opportunity to challenge Gillard's leadership when parliament resumes next week.

From the SMH (http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-national/ministers-urge-gillard-to-confront-rudd-20120222-1tmg7.html):

Key backers of Prime Minister Julia Gillard have urged her to confront former leader Kevin Rudd as a minority of caucus members continue to push for his return to the leadership.
...
Industry minister Greg Combet told the National Press Club in Canberra the issue needed to be resolved "in the near future".

"Enough is enough. It is time this matter is resolved," Mr Combet said.

"It is a distraction to the work of government."
