The one that really jumps at me is Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast. The movie was OK but he was just this tightly wound, explosive psychopath. He played completely against type and blew me away. Just an incredible performance. I just kept going: this is the same guy who was Gandhi?!?!?!?!?

Jessica Lange - American Horror Story
Lucy Lui - Ally McBeal

I struggled with whether Jessica Lange is lead or supporting. Even the award shows don't seem to have a consensus, but she's definitely the most memorable performance of any category I've seen this entire television season.

I knew I was missing a show and it was definitely Cheers. Bebe Neuwirth :swoon: I'd give anything to see the version of A Chorus Line where she played Sheila.

I don't think Lucy Liu, other than Kill Bill, has ever been as good as she was on Ally McBeal

I would also give Peri Gilpin a mention for Frasier

I know she had more of a recurring role, but I loved the episodes of Frasier featuring Bebe Glazer (Harriet Sansom Harris). She was great!!

Everyone always raves about Colin Firth in Pride and Predjudice, but I thought the Bingley sisters (Anna Chancellor, Lucy Robinson) were priceless. I also thought Lydia (Julia Sawahla) was the best Bennet.

Maggie Smith in A Room with a View. Hilariously uptight and condescending.

Claire Danes, My so-called life.

Um, I think she was the star of my So Called Life.

Jared Leto, though? :swoon:

Christopher LLoyd in "Back To The Future", and as the Klingon in Star Trek: The Search For Spock.

Christopher McDonald in Thelma and Louise
Such an underrated performance! Much is made about Brad Pitt's breakout role (deservedly so), but McDonald's great performance as Thelma's grumpy husband Darryl makes one understand why Thelma went on a life of crime.

Totally agree with this one!

Someone brought up Maggie Smith - she's brilliant in everything, but my particular favourite is Gosford Park. She plays the role to perfection, combining the subtleties of a woman in an awkward position with delicious relish for the comedic aspects of the role. Robert Altman tends to let his characters improvise to a degree, so one does wonder how much was a great script and how much was her own turn - but either way, it was delivered with excellence throughout every line, gesture and look.

Leonard Nimoy for all the Star Treks supporting roles.

Majandra Delfino as Maria De Luca in the 'Roswell' TV series

Saoirse Ronan as Elena-the Polish girl- in 'The way back'

Kevin Kline in A Fish Called Wanda - his character Otto, the dim-witted, hair-trigger tempered, ex-CIA assassin, stole every scene he was in, and he earned an Oscar for it.

Ditto for Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny.

David Hyde Pierce - Frasier

Definitely agree with this. I would go as far as to say the entire cast with the exception of Kelsey Grammer. I don't think that any other group of folks would have been able to do as well.....

Also have to add Sean Hayes on Will and Grace. He, along with Megan Mullally were the reason I watched.

Also had to add Marla Gibbs of The Jeffersons....hysterical
