Heard about this on the radio at dinner last night...twice...kept hoping I heard it wrong. Her music wasn't my thing, but I am sad.

It's all so sad. 48 is much too young to die and 18 is too young to lose your mom. At this point we don't know what was the cause of death. RIP Whitney.

And Bobbi Kristina is at the tipping point herself, running with a fast crowd. This will destroy er.

Such sad news. When I saw it pop up as breaking news last evening, I felt so sad, but not surprised. Whitney had appeared to be getting her life in order, but she had tried to do that several times, in the past. The reports, I have read, said that she had been out partying heavily (photos of her looking wasted and out of control are posted) for a few nights prior to her death. And that she and a group of people were in the hotel bar, drinking and noisy, the afternoon of her death. Addiction is a horrible thing, for many it is terminal. Even if she was not using drugs, at the time of her death, she (apparently) was drinking alcohol. The years of abuse devastated her wondrous voice and her poor, beautiful body. How very tragic, that with all of her gifts, she didn't seem to find happiness in her life. I read that Bobby Brown broke down when he heard, that he could not stop crying. Yes, their relationship was toxic, but they both created it. Sometimes two self-destructive people find each other and fall in love. I think that, even though they separated, they never stopped loving each other. And her poor daughter, only 19 :(.

RIP Whitney

According to this she was found dead in the bathtub :(

There are also reports that Bobbi Kristina was not allowed into the hotel room to see her mother's body.

Such a sad situation.

When I worked as a drug counselor years ago, there was a recovering addict/counselor who would tell new clients that continuing to abuse drugs would lead to only 3 places: jail, institution or death. I am sad to see that such an amazing voice has silenced and that her demons were just too strong to overcome. RIP Whitney :(

I'm just sitting here in shock. You know something, I was online all last night following the Ladies FS at 4CC at another site as I haven't got access to the Paid Forums here *and* also watched CP 24 (Toronto 24 hr news channel and crawl/headline news) w/my Mom for last night's lottery numbers to keep her company and there was NOTHING!! That was pretty close to 11pm EST and before they made the switch to CTV National News, they showed the video for I Want To Dance W/Somebody for a few minutes before the commercial break, but as there had been nothing on the crawl I just went, "Well...I wonder why they showed that?" and didn't think more about it.

I didn't find out about this until Mom came down at 9 this morning, when I take my morning meds to see if I'd heard the news. Been walking around in shock and a bit of a daze ever since.

I was a fan and Whitney's music was part of the soundtrack of my teens and 20's. She is indeed one of *those* voices that were once in a generation.

What a loss. My condolences to the Family, but especially Bobbi Kristina. May that glorious voice be soaring w/the Angels. :(

Newark Native's Childhood Church Reacts (http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2012/02/whitney_houston_dies_at_48.html)

"Her feelings came through in her singing," said Michele Richardson, who grew up in East Orange and now lives in Jackson. "Her voice was so powerful it often brought tears to my eyes just to hear it. Everyone is so proud of her that she came from here. There are some celebrities who forget where they came from. But Whitney never forgot. She always came back."

It looks like Jennifer Hudson may sing a tribute to Whitney at tonight's Grammy show. That's a gutsy thing for Jennifer to attempt in this situation, but they really do need to do something and Jennifer knows Whitney's music:

Jennifer did a tribute to Whitney a few years ago on BET Honors. If anyone is interested, its showing on BET right now.

Tony Bennett's WTF? response to Whitney's death...

Legalize It (http://gawker.com/5884383/tony-bennetts-response-to-whitney-houstons-death-legalize-it)

"First it was Michael Jackson, then Amy Winehouse, now the magnificent Whitney Houston," he began. "I'd like every person in this room to campaign to legalize drugs."
"Let's legalize drugs like they did in Amsterdam," he continued. "No one's hiding or sneaking around corners to get it. They go to a doctor to get it."

Yeah, so she, MJ and AW would all still be alive today if only drugs were legal. Well Tony, MJ died of a Propofol overdose...a legal drug given by a ?MD. Amy, apparently died of alcohol poisoning...a legal substance. You're "whack" TB.
