Yeah, I recall Tessa missed grabbing her blade in the first rotation of the twizzles, and Scott's stumble was quite obvious. Meryl and Charlie had unison problems but the judges don't really seem to penalize them for it much. I think the scores were pretty fair, the only thing I didn't agree with is those 7.75s from that one judge for PCS.

It definitely sets up a good competition for tomorrow!

maybe at Worlds both couples will get the exact same scores in TES and PCS, for both SD and FD. :D what to do then? :D

Let them duke it out in the back 40? Winner get gold.

Charlie White rotated faster in the first set. Tessa and Scott had a perfect unison instead. i seem to recall that unison is the most important thing in getting the level?
Not at all, unison is rewarded/penalized in the GOE mark. The levels are all about number of rotations and how many "Additional features" they had in the twizzle sequence choreography. Additional features are things like arm and upper body positions that extend the rotational axis or center of balance (making the move more difficult), variations in leg positions (like grabbing the blade), the third set of twizzles we see some teams do or entering the sequence with a dance jump. (There are more. If you are really curious, it's all spelled out in ISU Communication 1677.)

What I found most puzzling was the judge who gave V-M a lot of 7.75 in the PCS marks.

Tessa-Scott lose vecause of twizzles. So next time they will made twizzles on level 4 and all be OK. No?
mmh it depends on the judges...there's nothing granted...no mathematic certainty in the technic department.

Apparently not. It is the rotations, not the unison, which, to me, is stupid. The unison is the most difficult, why are they focusing on the rotations? I don't understand this. I'm so glad I'm not a skater.

See Susan M's explanation; much better than mine.

Last season they get 5 from one judge in component score.
And as for D-W twizzles. Charlie had problems with catching blade too, but maybe they had more rotation. And if one of the sakter didnt made twizzles on blades, but only rotations, they must get lower level. Charlie often did this.

this is the problem, it seems that they never get penalized for it. it's almost as if the judges are saying that since they twizzle really fast, we will overlook the unison issue.

One judge gave D/W 7.75 and 8.00s, so maybe it was hte same judge and (s)he's just tough?

to overcome the oxygen issue, tomorrow both teams will step on the ice with scuba diving equipments.

Hmmm, I don't really have much to say (yet). I just hope Tessa and Scott are in a good frame of mind (I haven't seen if they have commented on the SD yet) for tomorrow. They need to forget the SD and focus only on the FD and see what happens.

Changing choreo mid-season is tough; kudos to them for skating so well!

It must be frustrating for them, with last season mostly lost due to surgery and rehab, and now this season needing to make so many adjustments to the choreo, which affects their preparation yet again.

I hope they just let any negativity float past them, stay true to their priorities and goals (however they define them) and enjoy their time on the ice. Skate freely and with joy (then let the chips fall as they may). I'm sure enjoying watching, and I'm so glad they didn't hang up their skates after the Olys (for my own selfish reasons as an ice dance lover ;)).
